what the.......
OK so I'm driving the Super to work today and all of a sudden I hear a clunk under the car as if I had kicked up a peice of debris. Keep going and it repeats every so often. Get off the freeway and pull over. Reach under car and grab driveshaft near center and it wiggles pretty good. Center bearing support?

Maybe. It could be the center support sloppig and allowing the driveshaft to hit the tunnel. Or it might be a self-destrucing donut, hitting the tunnel itself. You probably should put the car up in the air to get a good luck at the whole drivetrain.

Andrew, thanks for the reply. Finally got under the car today after leaving it at work and found slop in the support bearing mounting. All the support peices looked good but I was able to move it up towards the floor a good 1/4 inch. I put some washers between the support plate that bolts to the floor pan and the center support to take out the slop. My question now is, is there a spacer missing from the assembly or was the retaining plate not oriented correctly. The plate is u shaped, does it mount with the u up or down? Or do I have some other issue here. At least my temporary fix will get the car home where I can work on it properly.

On a 105 car with the removable rubber carrier, the center bearing will move around an alarming amount even when all's well. I put a new bearing in my Super's a couple years ago with a new rubber carrier, and it still is quite flexible. 1/4" doesn't sound unusual. On mine, the only pieces are the bearing and pressed-on carrier around it, the rubber flex mount, and the steel strap that bolts across the bottom with two 8mm nuts. I don't have a parts manual handy, but that's my recollection of the pieces.
This isn't the 115 style with the folded and spot-welded steel carrier, is it, like US 1750s and 2000s?

FWIW, I recently had my super in the air and it had an AMAZING amount of slop in the carrier mount. A good 1/2 inch of up and down movement. Car seems to be running fine (daily driver) and there isn't any evidence of torn/missing surround.

Have you tried engaging the clutch ( taking off )with the e-brake on from a dead stop. It'll let you know if something is not right with the drive shaft and U joints. Good luck Matt

Got the car home. She did fine for quite a while the clunking started again but not as severe or frequent. Jacked the car up and as expected my jerry rigged washer fix had unfixed itself reintroducing slop. This time I removed the retaining plate and flipped it over with the u upward and tightened it down. All but a very minimal amount of movement was gone, definitly no more up and down. All the parts in the drive line still looked in excellent shape. I had always noticed and occasional clunk when taking off but nothing severe. Test drive coming up!

OK so after almost a month I got this fixed. I replaced the center bearing and support but still had the occasional clunk and a rubbing noise from the left rear. Decided to just drive it around the neighborhood and see what happened. After a few days got a squealing noise from the rear end. So I thought it was the rear wheel bearing and ordered same. Pulled left rear brake disc and shrapnel falls out. The parking brake shoe retaining springs had disintegrated and I'm guessing the shoes were snagging the "drum" and causing the parking brake cable to be jerked and slap the floor board. That was the cause of my initial noise. When all the bits got caught between the drum and shoe I got the squealing. Luckily have a spare axle I was able to pirate the needed parts from. Cleaned, lubed and readjusted both parking brakes and so far so good. Also, with the center support plate turned with the u shape upwards it takes all the slop out of the support and my drive train is really smooth with no vibrations apparent. Now to fix that reverse judder.
