Thanks Alfabiscione. The car we have has near new Michelins 155x15`s but badly sun perished as car left outside for some years without being moved. We chanced upon a set of 165x15`s which have about 3000km`s on them being taken off a Triumph TR3 by a friend of mine and price was really cheap compared to the price (and performance of acquiring them) 155`s but I had reservations as to appearance and clearance issues in the inner guard and wheel arch. Your pics have put my mind to rest although I will later get a new set of 155x15`s. Currently redoing rear brake seals on the Dunlops and starter motor.

gettin 'er cleaned up

so i had a few little things to do today..
airbox got put on. fuses cleaned up by Aaron. everything works. air in the tires....

SHE GOES!!!
Wah-hoo!

boy what a nice little car she is.

I started to polish up the paint a little and wash some of the driveway grime from her. Below are the "before" pictures, I'll post the "after's" tomorrow once she's waxxed and buffed.

One little problem with the clutch though, maybe some of you pro's can chime in...

with the clutch fully engaged, everything is fine. when I disengage the clutch, there is a scraping/rubbing sound.

sound happens independent of what gear I'm in, or if I'm moving, or in neutral. It sounds like its coming form the clutch area. sound only goes away when the clutch is fully engaged. It sounds exactly like driveshaft rubbing on tranny tunnel.

more pictures...
There was this really horrible wrinkle-finish paint all over the rear clip. so I've been wet sanding it down to a smooth finish.
The front of the car had the best paint and it looks fantastic after hitting it with the rubbing compound and polish.

Still there is so much variation in the paint across the car, I probably shouldn't hope for too much. Also I am getting very familiar with all the body damage, which is extensive. Unfortunately, I don't think I will have the resources to tend to this any time soon.

I found some pictures of the process recently and thought I'd add them to the thread.

Lots left to do but she drives around like a champ now! Look out for me in the Berkeley hills!

Oh, by the way. Please buy my stuff in the for-sale section and on ebay (stampyoldani), I'm scrounging the garage for $1600 worth of stuff to sell so I can buy new suspension parts!

update

So I finally got to taking apart my donor column shift parts (thanks Allegerrita!)

Last night I spent a couple of hours dissecting it and cleaning it all up. The bushings all appear quite good, but the shafts show some corrosion. I'll measure the runout on all the bushed joints and rebuild whats needs it. This work will go slowly and then get transplanted onto the car.

I want it to shift like new!

I bought all new suspension bits, and am just waiting for a long weekend at work where I can take it all apart on the lift, clean and paint, and re-assemble I'm hoping that with the lift, and counting the time it takes for paint to dry, I can do the suspension in two long days. (this will be only my second time through an Alfa suspension).

I still need to source a mysterious short circuit which is blowing my tail/dash light fuses.

Happy New Year!

Lots of resolutions...

What's your ETA for getting all the suspension goodies in? Did you just max out the CC at Centerline, or did you find another source for some of that stuff? I've been pondering my suspension options...

Curious,
Jason

Garry,
Brave and stupid is a winning combination for getting stuff like this done!

Jason,
I just put the suspension stuff on my credit card. I used shox.com for the Koni's and I got the rest of the stuff from centerline. It's part of their rebuild packages. It was all really affordable when you consider all the parts. Although I understand some people have issues with the FRAP balljoints.

I'm extremely hesitant to make any ETA claims for installation, I've been sitting on the parts for two weeks now, and I really want to have a few days to clean things up and do the job proper. I'm working crazy start-up hours, and a single dad to boot (see my sweetie in the engine bay above) so finding two consecutive days to work on it all is quite a task. There's a chance I'll get to it on the 11th-13th.

I did my GTV a few years back and I don't remember it being all that bad, but I tend to remember these things optimistically.
