need advice

Hello dear friends! let me ask you some questions, really don't know if have been answered somewhere else here.
My project car is a Euro 74 BERLINA 2000, try to believe that she has a real 35kms on it! She was bought by an old A.R dealer in 74 and actually kept in the garage for 20 years. The good old guy passed by, leaving the thing to his son who was also treated her cool n' right for the next years and finally I took her before 1.5 years. Although I put her at once for riding giving me a really GREAT pleasure , she suffered from the driveline (strong vibrations) etc. But the engine was PERFECT! Maybe she is the most original Euro Berlina. You cant imagine in what exactly situation is the interior...
Of course, I'm not the funny guy who want to have an old car only for showing, thus, I usually gave her the right treatment each time I was behind her wheel...But before some months that damned thing called ...stucked thermostat leave me in a highway with a blown head gasket, too. It was just after a "contra" with a Fiat Uno Turbo (a really great litll monster) which -of course- I got him (we been together till 130km/h but after this, my babe, started to show her butts to the guy, finally I reach around 185km/h). Just after I was splashed from some wet rip, I thought that a ater collar was failed but at the same time, or just before, I remembered my eye cought the engine's temperature instrument up to full scale...Ok. Some white smoke and I guess you know the history...For some personal reasons I left my baby (covered) and dead for 7 months now, what a shame, really. So,

1) after these dark months might have something to do first before open the head ?A friend (good mechanic) told me to leave the liquids (oil+water) till open the head when I told him I was willing to drain the mess water out.
2) Although the interior is PERFECT, I must begin to have some work to the body. And you know what is the brain of a such alfisti...you dream the best for your babe, thus I need to have some advice of what will be the best method to take of the dash?
3)suppose we have not a really rusty surface just some surface rust around the front end ( behind the front lights, etc, witch is difficult to put your hands to clear it.What will be the best solution here? I saw many chemical products stated that will give a bare metal clean, will it be that possible. They mean WHITH the use of sandpapers? Advice please!
4) Is there any advice, for how I can split away ( without make even a scratch) those nice chrome nickels around the body and doors? There are many clips out there.

As you see, I'm on the run for giving her a good overall respray. As soon as she will be ready, I will post you some photos. The color is A.R 211 Pino Verde.

Unother happy issue: I want for that great indeed dash and interior the best.
To keep it in that shape for many years. You know it is vinyl everywhere. After reading a guy here in alfabb, for the 303 aerospace protectant, I gave it a chance before one month...WHOOO, this is really what we wanted! My interior was super before, now is NEW...

This post is a little hard to follow, but here are some comments:

1. Drain the oil and water out just before you open up the engine.

2. You don't have to remove the dash to do body work, but if it's rusty around the windshield it would be best to. Remove and mark all the wires (some are in large plug fittings) and cables, disconnect the heater ducts, remove the steering wheel and the plastic steering column covers, remove the 10mm nut at each end up underneath the dash, remove the small bolts in the defroster vents, and pull the whole thing out. You don't have to remove the console but it might make it easier to get access.

3. Grinding/sanding is probably the best way to get mild rust off, then treat with a rust preventive like POR-15 or similar.

4. No sure what you mean by the "nice chrome nickels" around the body and door. If you mean the stainless trim along the drip rail on the roof, I would caution against removing it. My body shop did on my Super, and it really didn't go back on right. If you mean something else, please clarify, perhaps with a photo.

Andrew,
Thanx for the answers. Well, yes I mean the steel trims around the roof and around the doors. I allways thought that might be a really hard job to put them out!

Remove all the exterior trims isn't easy. But if you want a proper respray, you must remove everything.Just my opinion.

Glad you liked the 303 Protectant. It is used in the marine business to protect boats. I use it all the time on my cars as it makes them look so nice and new looking. The bottle is not cheap ($15 for 32 oz.) Worth every penny.
The company headquarters is only a few miles from my location.
Here is their weblink. http://www.303products.com
Napa stores can order it if you can't find it on the shelves.
