Super - Door Restraints ?

Hi all,

Well the Super arrived safely last night. I've yet to have a good look over her but I am concerned about the doors. There seems to be nothing to prevent them being opened far enough to damage sheetmetal ?????

The Duetto had a tether strap to restrict the door movement at full open, but the Super looks like a strong wind and a loose grip on the door pull could end in tears.

What's missing ???

If this is standard fare, I'll have to run a thether strap from the door to the kick panel.

One little surprise is that the Super came equipped with a steering lock in the ign switch mechanism. I certainly didn't expect that from a 1966 car.

Beatle, I've just moved house so everything is packed but, I do have a Super parts manual packed AND, I know where it is. I'll scan and post the page that shows how the check straps work when I get it out if nobody beats me to it!

There's definately supposed to be one there.

That's certainly a Berlina feature, i dont know whether it was standard fare on Super or not, but if it was there in 68 theres a chance it might have been in 66!

Beatle: are you still in NT or down in the state of weakened infrastructure?

No checkstrap on the supers, it's built into the bottom hinge. Well for the pinned hinge cars, don't know about the earlier ball and socket type, will look tomorrow..

BEN: Take your time. We moved into our current digs only 3 weeks ago and I can empathise. Also just purchased a 'new' 4X4 (which overheated today ) and now I need to roadworthy the Super. I've been told it's an arduous process in Victoria, which is a joke given there are no ongoing annual inspections.

PETE: Yep, we are now living in Sale. Level III water restrictions have put a dampener on proceedings though.

BLUE FLAME: I certainly can't see a hole for a check strap (a'la Duetto). I figured there must be a 'step' on one of the hinges to restrict door travel but I can't see it.

ALL: Is there a cardisc available for the sedans ? I have the coupe & Duetto version somewhere.

small tang on bottom hinge (not present on top hinge) restricts travel. I must say Beetle I've never seen a Super with the infamous door 'checkstrap' crease ala GTV and spider. Don't worry about it.

I have the Giulia CarDisc AR10042 Version 4.0 which covers the 105 series sedans. I make that distinction because it does not cover the 115 series Giulia sedans (hanging pedals) such as my '71 1300 Super.

Good point Jim about the 115.

I found my disc and it's #AR10042 V3.3 (1999). Cover says it's for the Giulia GT/GTV/GTA/GTC/Duetto/ Giulia TI, Super and TI Super.

Luckily all the Aussie cars are 105s with real pedals

Hi Beatle, no Door straps on my 66 either. Hinges seem pretty tough though...

Giulia TI: no straps
Giulia Nuova Super: strap underneath the upper hinge
BTW, even though the 1600 Nuova Super is nominally a 105.26, it's actually a 115 series body - the 1300 version has the identical body but has a 115 number.

Just fyi, there's a guy selling "Giulia Super" check straps on eBay, and they do have a 105 part number, for what that's worth.
(No relation to seller, etc.)

After checking my car again it looks as though the passenger door stop is serviceable but the drivers door stop has fractured the lip off the edge of the stop allowing the door to open all the way.

I may be able to rebuild the profile with a bead of weld.
