Door Mechanism & Chrome Grill
Sedan questions, 1966 Super-
I'm looking for a rear passenger door closing mechanism (attached to the frame, not on the door)....the Alfa number is105.14.53.016. I'll post this under the Parts forum but figured this is THE forum in the know. I had a problem with the old one that had been cured by inserting a new washer--this fix won't work any more.
Chrome question: is it possible to re-chrome the front grill of a '66 Super and the front side indicator spears? I've read various things about the metal content of these pieces--wanted to find out if there are any issues.
Thanks for any insight.

Re-Chroming
The gentleman from whom I aquired my Super had his grille done in NZ. Below is an excerpt from a story he posted to the AROCA QLD website which might help if you are willing to post your grille O/S.
http://www.aroca-qld.com/library/super_story.html
"On one of my annual trips to NZ, I came across a company in Christchurch called Brightwork Supplies who reckoned they could straighten the grill. One of my staff was going over on holidays, so I stuck it under his arm and off it went. A couple of days later I got a call from NZ. Uh-oh.
“Yes we reckon we can fix it, but it’s in a bad way and could be expensive.”
“How much?” I ask.
“Oh, around $100,” was the reply.
“Ok, just do it.”
A couple of weeks later my brother came over for Indy with the grill tucked under his arm - beautiful, all straight and shiny and freshly re-chromed. The price - NZ$XXX - what a bargain. "

I might have one. Is it the half-moon latch type or the more hooked latch type? The half-moon latch is a plan semicircle.

Type
Andrew,
It looks to be the "latched" type--I'll send you a photo later tonight.
Thanks.

Excellent link--good thing I didn't read it before I got underway with my "cosmetic restoration"!
I pulled the grill over the weekend and looked at it last night. It is in pretty good shape and is (partially) cleaning up pretty well. I'm not sure that I could ship it to NZ, but that is a heck of a price for the work.
Can't wait to get to the weatherstripping!

Another good article...it's nice to know some of the background on the Super design/evolution.
Back to the door latch...attached are two pictures. Hopefully someone has a spare

This is the kind I have, but all mine are broken too. All the ones with the cast tang that acts as the ratchet stop break eventually. The later style with the bent-over sheet steel stop last longer. I didn't note whether they had the same or a different part number.
Sorry I don't have any good ones for you.

Frank it is a shame you live on the wrong side of the planet You would have a field day in my garage! I'm pretty sure I have that latch. Let me know if your Northern Hemisphere search is unsuccessful.

Hi Derek. It must be summertime in your hemisphere--all the Aussie Alfa bb'ers are pretty active lately. We in the frigid North can only dream about more nice, warm weather days to come.
So far, I have parts from England, Italy, Australia, and the U.S. Super parts are definitely tougher to track down versus the Spiders.
In fact, I have the C-pillar emblems on the way from your hemisphere. A couple of other Australians are checking their parts supplies (but are not too confident that they have one of these latches). If you can locate the door latch part in your parts bin, I'd really appreciate it (and of course pay for it and shipping) if you would send it up.
Regards, and happy motoring!

Grill chrome
nochicken,
I found an excellent shop in Massachusetts that specializes in "pot" metal restoration and rechroming. He has done all my chrome, even chromed stainless steel parts. His name is Mickey DuPuis at D&S Custom Metal Restoration, 102 Cabot St, Holyoke, MA 01040. His number is 413 533-7770. He has done a lot of concours work and all his stuff his best quality.
Do you have a photo and the part number off the back of the grill? Does it look like the one in the eclosed picture? I am trying to determine what Alfa this one goes to. It is part number 116.10.59.031.01, also has another number on it, 006 153 003. This one is in very good shape.
I am not affiliated with this shop, just like to pass on good information.
Terry

Door latch-
Frank- today I had time to look through my stuff and voila! It looks like it's never been on a car- I also have some extra C-pillar badges and one pair of the badge holders as well if anyone needs them. Fred.
