id this 73

Hello,

I recently aquired a 73 euro 4dr sedan from my father who purchased the car new in Italy and shipped it over the US in 1978. Although the car was altered by him over the years, I am trying to restore it to it's original condition.

I have some very basic questions to start with regarding id numbers that don't seem to make sense. As time will go by I hope this forum can help with the restoration process.

I was fortunate in finding original paperwork from Italy regarding the car but have some questions.

The original motor was a 1750 with weber carbs (now out of the car), but a 2.0 SPICA engine is currently in the car.

The documents I have from Italy identify the car is a 116 series then the next two numbers are hard to read. The last looks like an "8" but the first is illegible.

First question is, from doing some research, it looks like this number would only match up to 116.58 which is a sport sedan but it reflects model years 1975-1979 and for 2000cc cars (according to the Centerline website). Any thoughts on this?

Secondly, my "Telaio #" or chassis is AR2022527 with the original engine # being 01608 19007. Any takers on these numbers? I tried emailing the archivostorico@alfaromeo.com but no response. Ditto with the Elvira person that came up during a search of this forum.

Cheers.

MC

I think the unreadable number on the document you have is "0". 116.08 is the model number for the first series alfetta sedan 1.8. According to the data on the Fusi book Link: Click Here (go to the bottom of the post #3), the chassis number you provided seems to be of 1973 alfetta sedan.

Mystery solved, right?

BTW, the appropriate section for the car is: Alfetta & GTV6 (1975-1986) on the alfabb.

Tiger,

Yup the car is the same as your picture.

I looked at the fusi link, which I've seen before, but the model years stop at 1972. The data for the alfetta 116.08 series for chassis and motor numbers stop short before my #'s. What happened to 1973 on?

I just realized I posted in the wrong place. I move it to the other forum. Thanks for the replies.
