Haig,

Would love to see more pics of your Berlina with the 195/55/15 tyres. I bought Alfaholics 15" GTA replica rims for my 1750 Berlina project, and am trying to figure out tyre sizes.

The car will be low, so am worried that 55 series tyres might lower it too much, plus the 55 series will throw the speedo out a fair bit, and lower the top speed. But there's a greater choice of performance tyres in 55 series versus 60.

Would love to hear more about your Berlina in general - I'm building a biancospino 1750, it'll have 11m lift cams, fully ported head, high-comp pistons, 11:1 comp, fully balanced, 45mm webers, custom headers, electric fan and water pump, oil cooler etc. My mechanic estimates it'll be 170-180HP at the flywheel.

Will sit on Alfaholics fast road kit suspension and GTA rims. Am going to keep it white, and put the red/green stripes on the bonnet. Still undecided about leaving bumpers on or taking them off.

Is your car modified?

Damien

Cool

Looks like that was one straight but unloved Berlina, Nice to see its in safe hands now.
Does any one know to a set of yellow RHD spec headlamps for a 2000? I think they'd look cool against my green paintwork.

Hi,

During 70's and 80's, the french "alfa" had yellow headlamps,
It's easy in France to find those yellow headlamps, everybody here wants to have white headlamps.... except me.. i love it.. !!

Some pics of my Sud Ti 1500 80', and GTV6 2.5 1987.. and my ex GTV4 1979

Hi alfabiscione

Those alloy wheels on that Berlina are wheels made in South Africa in the mid seventies by Tiger Wheels. I had a set on my 1974 Sud Ti. Tiger Wheels also made a copy of the Momo Vega mag wheel, failry similar looking to the ones on this Berlina. The copies did not have the centre casting like the Momo. The centre on the copy was flat and very plain.

Both the wheels on your car and the copies of the Momo Vega were made in the days when Eddie Keizan (now CEO of a world wide wheels conglomorate) still worked on the shopfloor himself. The quality of those wheels were not too great at the time. The alloy wheel industry in SA was still in its infancy then.

Regards

Malcolm

The wheels looks like early 70's "GT wheels" of UK origin....
Cheers, Zafar

TSW = Tiger Sport Wheels - Started in the 60s by Eddie Keizan as Tiger Wheels in Fordsburg Johannesburg. Now Tiger Wheels (in SA) is the sales arm of TSW.

Those wheels were called "GT" here too, maybe one is a copy of the other ?? popular on the Truimph GT6 locally

Great to see so many Berlina's being brought back to life!!
When I bought my Elan, and even when I bought my wife her Berlina, I promised myself that the value of the car plus the value of our enjoyment of the car would stay more than the money spent.

By that measure I am not upside down on either car, even though I have spent a whole lot more on the Elan than I could sell it for.

The Berlina still is worth around what we have in it, but it still needs a lot. Unfortunately repairs on the daily drivers took up money that would have been spent on the toys.

With a classic car you have to include the enjoyment value or you will regret the money spent on it, because the only ones who make money off of old car restoration are the guys doing the work for the owner.

We had the Berlina out Sunday to an F1 season ender party, then cider mill and dinner. Loads of fun with the baby in the back and some nice roads to drive. I am sure glad I put the sump guard on though. It bottoms out worse than the Elan, and the Elan has a ground clearance of 4 inches with the autocross tires.

do you know of a good on-line source for 1750 GTV inner head lamps in yellow (euro style, i.e. not fogs lamps but high beams)???
