eBay Giulia TI
Anyone seen this car - http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT
Seems tempting... just over 3000 miles from home for me...

I'm pretty sure that car has been on ebay twice before without meeting the reserve. I think this is the first time with a "Buy It Now" price, though. Doesn't seem like an unreasonable price to me, depending on how extensive the "soft" areas underneath are. I don't really have a feel yet for the price difference/desirability of the Supers over the 1300 TI but a straightforward engine swap would eliminate the power difference. Hope it finds a good home.

my impression of the previous Giulias from Tazman (a very honest person by the way.. always gets back to you via email) is that you have to be ready for those notorious soft areas, more than the photos imply of course. I've watched and called on a couple of them in the past (not this one). Again, the guy is honest with an honest product.

My 1300 TI was not powerful or quick, but tired and with a single down draft carb it kept up well and would cruise at 80 all day while returning reasonable fuel economy. It was an excellent daily driver in the city, except a non existent 2nd gear synchro.
The GTV tempts me to drive way too fast in the city!

I'd say look it over hard, I bought one from him and he was overly optomistic in his evaluation. He seems to be an honest guy and refunded when I bitched.

Yes, this car was on its third time (at least) on ebay. Didn't look that bad in the pictures, and I thought some kind of deal should have been worked out between the high bid and the reserve. Looked as good as some $5000 cars I've seen sold lately. That said, 1300+single carb=slow, but what the heck. Drive it awhile and eventually put in a 1750.
Replaced my Super's brake MC and hoses this weekend and it's back on the road. I missed it.

I always thought that that car looked fantastic. Why won't it bring the little money he's asking for?? If I had seen it before I bought the 65 Ti I'm restoring I would have bought it, and saved myself a lot of hassle and money!

Looks can be deceiving, trust me, the one I bought from him sure did'nt look like the one I saw pictured. And the verbage was out in left field. I had to push it off the carrier.

I suppose. I have had no dealings with that seller. What I'm thinking is that he is asking only 500 bucks more than the Chrome cost on my Ti. My paint cost as much as his asking price. My whole car will end up costing as much as any other restoration; I mean, if the car is presentable as it looks in the pictures and it runs good, it should be worth a great deal more than he is asking. Are you guys saying that this particular car is no good??

I too don't know the car personally, but buying cars on the internet, sight-unseen, is a real crapshoot. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Buying a car from a seller with a known less-than-forthcoming reputation just makes the gambling odds worse for you. I'd go look at the car firsthand, or have someone local you can trust look at it, before committing, if you're that interested.
A friend on the Alfa Digest in Okla bought a 1300 TI on ebay from a well-known seller in LA, and it too was really really not as represented. So these things happen.

Oh...the truck! For a second I thought you meant like the helicopters in Viet Nam being pushed off the carrier deck! I thought, "Wow -that IS a bad car!

Perserverance (ie,$'s) will overcome the untutored mind. I think my TI might have been pushed over the flight deck and rescued by the seller at a much later date. Carriers do always operate in salt water don't they? I gotta say that he did refund me $'s when I bitched. I am just saying that a personal lookover is mandatory. Flowery verbage and hyperbole aside, Andrew is right, look it over yourself or have someone you know do it for you. Be extremely careful of ebay offerings, sight unseen. In my case after the refund it landed about where it was worth and I've had my fun with the restoration. However it would have been a hellofa lot better had it been as presented.

Well, at least it's got enough photos from enough positions to avoid the problem my brother had with an eBay purchase. Assuming the average Mercedes has zero bullet holes, his had 7 more than average. There weren't any bullet holes in the photos, so the seller must have positioned the camera very carefully. We're thinking maybe a drug deal gone very bad, but, if so, someone put some effort into cleaning the interior! Maybe the forensics lab techs.....
