I was kidding. I've driven KPH cars before, and understanding the speed and other gauges was not an issue. Obviously poor attempt at humor that was not recognized as such.

Nice to see another column-shift car; can't be many left. I had one 30 years ago. Anyone know if they even brought them into the US? Luigi, your car is from Canada, right? Do you have its history from Alfa?

Giulia TI column shift 5 speed 105.14
Hi Luigi,
Your car was purchased new in Vancouver, B.C. Canada by a lumber business owner, Mr. Wickson.?; I have to check the exact spelling of his name in my files. It was meticulously maintained for close to 25 years by Gio Coletta of Pacific Italia Auto (later Pacific Inter Auto). After the death of the original owner and his widow, the TI became avilable in the late 1980's. One of our "enterprising" Alfa Romeo club members tried to make a quick profit on the TI, but I cut out this middleman by tracking down the executor of the estate, and helped my friend William L. Schmidt and wife Diana McHardy-Schmidt buy the TI for $1,500, as I recall. The TI was used as a daily driver by Diana for over 10 years. What is interesting about this TI is that shortly after purchase the seats were covered in a reddish-brown leather OVER the original upholstery. If you look under the cracked leather, then you will find like new upholstery. The netting on the back of the front seats and the rest of the interior suffered from being the daily driver for a growing family. It did not help that many heavy Alfa parts and hoists were carried in the trunk of the TI over the years. The tail started to sag, but a very good rear clip was purchased for the TI's restoration. After over 10 years, Bill Schmidt put the car up for sale reluctantly because he really liked this TI. I was there when the TI and the rear clip were picked up by "Magista" from the Seattle area. We were all sad to see this two owner TI go because this resulted in only Alleggerita's 105.14 (and only 7 running Giulias) remaining in the Vancouver area. So, you are only its 4th owner. I am very pleased to have driven both column shift Giulias (105.14) over the years, and hope that you can keep it running. I will try to dig up more info and pictures of your car.

Great history, thanks. The car lived in Berkeley for six months while Damian learned he didn't like it here, then moved back to Portland. It sat I my house for a few months til Damian came to retrieve it. I enjoyed babysitting it and was honored to be entrusted with it.
By now the rear clip may be lost, but it was in Damian's apartment when I visited him in Seattle during the Potlatch convention a few years ago. Maybe Luigi knows where it is.

WOW CN36!
Thanks so much for the history, I would be very much interested in learning more about the vehicle. I'm exited to be the 4th owner! I do love this car dearly although the body is suffering from rust and dings and has paint and bondo issues. I am very happy to say that the motor is fresh, as is the suspension and it gets driven regularly.
I'd be very very happy to learn any more of the cars history and collect any more old pictures.

Bringing the discussion back to my TI: my 750 Berlina engine project is stalled for a bit, so I got a little trouble-shooting time on the TI today to see if I could figure out the "bad noise" that caused the PO to stop driving in 20+ years ago.
I pulled out the dist last week and went through it. It tests fine after cleanup etc. on the bench. Installed in the car, I got a spark indication with an inductive timing light. Plugs looked reasonable. Carb could be all gummed up, but I pulled to top off it (downdraft Solex) and there was still gas in the float bowl. Wow. So after filling the float bowl, with the venerable "IV bottle" hooked up, and dumping some gas down the carb throat, I spun the engine over (see sophisticated diagnostic tools in photo). Turns great, but wouldn't even cough. Tried a few other things, because with gas and spark you ought to have combustion, right? Well, you also need compression. Did a compression test and got 20, 20, 30, 30. That explains why it turns over so easily by hand, and why it doesn't fire. Regardless of what actually killed the engine, 20 years of sitting I would guess has frozen the rings. So I can't tell what bad noises, if any, lie in the bottom end.
Oh well, this makes the decision to pull the engine out pretty easy, and to start building a 105.14 1600 for it.

And here I was thinking I was crazy for having my two Alfas and a Beta Berlina. I'm glad there are people like you so my non-car friends think I'm not yet 'round the bend
I say this assuming that 2002 is yours, too.

Yep, it's mine. Cortina is gone, and 2002 probably should go too. Pare it down to just Alfas!

Hi Andrew, do you have an more pics of the door cards and armrests in your Ti? I am taking the three wrong cards out of my 66 Super and am thinking they may be from a Ti. I am going to clear a pile of bits on ebay in the next couple of days suitable for a Ti, such as airbox, solex C32 PAIA, manifold, script, 1300 head, fan/wiper/light switches etc. in case anyone is interested. I have an instrument cluster I will chuck on as well, (mph and english).
Another Ti question while I think of it, do your doors have the screw type hinge system?
