Craig - definitely surreal. I joked with Andrea that I'd buy the duetto back again in another 5 years: fate dictates it - she looked at me deadpan and said 'don't even joke about it ....'
I think a nice early Sprint GT (or perhaps even a 2600 sprint...) would be the next one if the Super ever moves on...
Are you looking at stock rods / pistons, or some shiny Carillo etc gear ?
If yours already has the pilot hole drilled in the back of the crankshaft - rig it up on a solid stand and do a compression check - if it's reasonable you might be able do the seats / guides / stem seals in the head and away you go - do the block later. If you have to pull the crankshaft anyway - might as well pull the pistons and check the ring grooves / hone the liners / replace the rings, slide down that slippery slope.
Remember to keep an eye out for a 105 sump pan, front timing cover and timing gear (if you want to keep the mechanical tacho. I guess you could take them of the other 2L ... sacrelige !!!!

I'll let you know when I get cracking on mine - I'm sure there'd be room in the shed to do the two of them side by side if that helps ... Of course, OH&S dictates that we'd need one of those warning signs on the door with earmuffs, safety glasses, mangled fingers in gears, radiation and 'DANGER MORE POWA' enscribed underneath

So we'll get some t-shirts and placemats made up for the *2012* TS conversion society ? (2011 ? it's over already....)

Cheers mate - let me know the damage so I can fix you up !
I feel the IKEA pain - I still have a few cabinets to go in our kitchen - we kept going back for more of those bolt/sleeves to link the cabinets together.
Cheers !

Heh heh . I have a couple of those and my dark blue and white one as well, let alone the project.
Hey Scott sorry I didn't get back to you earlier re the engine rebuild. Like yours and Derek's Ikea flatpacks, I too am neck deep in work and expenditure on the country house's kitchen, which thankfully I can say is starting at long last to beginning to look more like a kitchen than a bomb site.
Still a little more work/expenditure on builders, plumbers and electricians but once I can get them off the gravy train, hopefully I can start to save a few $ for parts for the engine at last.
Plenty of hard graft yet out at the place for myself to do, but at least that doesn't cost too much, beyond plaster, paint, sandpaper etc small bickies relatively speaking.

As I mentioned - the faithful 116 2L engine I converted a good few moons ago now for the Duetto here: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/engi...ps-please.html (wow that was 7/2007... time flies..)
... and then transplanted into the Super with a newly rebuilt head when the Duetto went home with Craig (sigh) .. finally developed what sounded exactly like a nasty rod knock and I had to park her up until time allowed me to get to the bottom of it.. the bottom end anyway.. hur hur hur.
I picked up a TS motor to convert a while back from a generous Alfisti in Adelaide - it's languished in the shed since August-ish last year - giving me the odd desultory look as I hadn't even removed the shrink-wrap and un-wired it from the pallet it was delivered on. A few days became available to work on the car - and I decided to convert the TS engine and fit that, rather than rebuild the 2L 105 engine again.
I've started a thread in the engine conversions for some piccies / cries for help etc here: http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/engi...lia-super.html
so the thrilling blow-by-blow action will continue there for a few days at least Then back here when the engine crane gets involved again.
I told Pancho I'd have the engine stripped, converted and back in the car in 3 days. Obviously I have kids. And a house mid-renovation. And I like to sleep sometimes. Pancho laughed at my naivete.. And now I do too

Scott,
If you are using the standard 2 dizzie set up the front one will be close to the radiator. You can get around this by using a Fiat cap 128? which comes out at right angles. I've got the undercoat in the engine bay of the Super, but the poor repair work on front panels is atrocious. not sure what to do. seriously thinking of dumping the valence and getting a good S/H one....yeah, as if there is one out there!
