You have to love the sound of webers and a nicely set up Giulia doing what they do best; I take it Scott, the inspiration was as much for you as for the rest of us Definitely a decent Alfa driving road for sure.

Yep - when the resto work remaining stretches out before you, dwindling into infinity.... this keeps the morale up

Hi Scott,
Do you still have the 1600. If so do you want to get rid of it? I'm looking for one at the moment.
Regards
Jim

Hi Jim,
unfortunately the engine is spoken for - but it's still in melb - I'll let the owner know you're interested if you like.
The engine is actually a 00502 I discovered the other day;
- According to Fusi http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/alfa...-friendly.html
the 00502 could be a GTC, Sprint GT, Sprint GT g.d., or Sprint GT CKD. All from 1964. My guess would be the GT g.d.
Cheers,

Jim what car do you want it for? I have a spare 00502 bare block with crank and bearings. I may be able to get my hands on a Ti block as well.
Scott - update on the Super?

Thanks Scott.
Hi Derek,
I'm not sure which car it is going in yet, however I want to build one up for the Ti Super as a spare as it is starting a campaign of racing in Nb historics starting at phillip island. I have just received the log book and after some hasels I now have the only Ti Super log booked in Australia I'm a little chuffed as it is as close to original as it can be, being a RHD car. I think you have seen some photos I think I have been pretty accurate for the repro without too much compromise.
Jim

I know - I've been remiss
I've lost a whole boatload of time on the car trying to address a wandering idle / lean idle circuit (1500 - 3500) revs issue (already vented about it while talking to Derek the other day ... excellent listener )
For interested peeps - I started a thread here about the issue:
http://www.alfabb.com/bb/forums/engi...le-surges.html
I can normally help friends out with this stuff when it strikes - but It's really tripped me up this time - ahh hubris
In the interim - I had the exhaust I'd cobbled together to move the car around replaced - I now have a nice fat flange joint from the back of the extractors to the first resonator, then a stock central muffler, and stock rear resonator / tailpipe. Will probably delete the front resonator first, and then maybe the rear - the Duetto sounded great that way.
Also had the front end alignment done - the guys at Tyre Plus here in Richmond get points for patience for working through it with me (they said they swore never to do a 105 again with the last super they had...) Can't wait to see how the car handles once I have registration plates on and can take it up into the hills !
Also had the radiator re-cored - see pic for how it looked when the cover came off...
Anyhoo - I put the car in for a roadworthy test prior to registration, I expected a few issues - was surprised by a couple - but now have a list of little things to fix;
* Windscreen replaced
* A little rust bubbling in 2 of the doors (they used count doors as non-structural - but that's changed apparently... Just means I have to fix the doors sooner rather than later)
* rear bumper loose (oops)
* the rubber shim washers on the outboard ends of the trunnion arm (easy to replace)
* one front antiswaybar bush knackered
* Steering idler has small amount of slop (I think they only found that because every other single joint in the steering is brand new... grrr)
* Taillight lenses crazed (but I might sneak through on that one - unless someone has a reasonable set spare ? )
* missing split pin on one of the ball joint nuts (glad he noticed that - I was one short and bought a new pack of pins, then forgot what for )
Once that's done - if I haven't sorted the idle issue out I'll ask the guys to give it a look-over while it's in for a re-test (Maranello-Pursang in Melb - legends ) hopefully they say 'Ohh, it's your crossbatch-rotivator, they're $5 and I have one here..' hahahaha
A couple of pics of the door I started on the weekend too... Seems to have been patched and brazed and patched and lead filled and brazed and .... oh my ! I'll cut that bottom panel off the door frame and make a new one.
Cheers

Hey Scott great to hear there has been progress, though don't you just hate it when you start chasing rusty metal to get rid of, that you always end up having to take off far more metal than you might have anticipated. Yeoouch,
I know that door doesn't look too pretty, but in truth the doors on my Super were far worse. There was little solid metal in the door frame remaining, let alone the outer skins, hence I had no option but to replace all my doors.
Which style rear tail light lens do you need? I have two sets, but am thinking I might actually get some new ones, so if any I have might be what you need, you are most welcome to them. I will have a look to see what I have and their condition and can get back to you re that.
I too am going to have to get my radiator re-cored, but I think my windscreens should be fine, so at least that is one less cost to have deal with.
It is good to hear you are getting close to being able to take yours for a run.
I am perfectly happy to 'fess up Jim, I am the hopeful owner/recipient of Scott's spare old engine. I have some special plans for this engine . But I would say that Derek's spares might be a good option if you guys can sort something out. Otherwise have a chat to Barry Edmunds, as Scott mentioned to me that he is onto a couple of rusty Supers, which still have a 1600.

Hi mate - the later style with the plastichrome surrounds with the brake/indicator above/below, not side/side as on the earlier ones. (which I actually think look really cool - if you had a set of those with the internal electrics to match, I'd think about chucking them on )
The lenses can be had on ebay for ~ $135 I think, or similar from alfaholics et al - I should probably just buy some - I think I was holding off on them until I'd painted the car - upgrade them later as a 'quick win' if that makes sense
Jim - the old supers I heard about at are up in templestowe, the owner's looking for someone to take the whole cars away - free to good home... let me know if you're interested and I'll pass on his details.
Cheers,

Hi mate, I am going out to our country place to do some work on it this afternoon after work, and given I have most of my Super's parts there I will check out what I have, now I know what you are after.
Yes like you, I originally thought I would get some better 2nd hand lens off Fleabay until I could afford some new ones. (Made perfect sense to me ) I found a pair locally for $30-40 ? I think they are ok but possibly no better than my original ones, which probably are perfectly ok. I can't recall which style they are.
I think my brother in law has the earlier type on his car, even though it is also a '69 or '70 model.
Anyway I will let you know tomorrow what I find, if possible I will take a photo of them for you to see if they are of any use to you. Cheers

Hi Scott,
Yes I'd be interested if you could pass on my details to the owner of the two rusty Supers(PM me). I have a set of new Super tail light lenses with the chrome surrounds. Unfortunately as they were NOS from Mark at Milano they are not perfect (there is a couple of scratches in the chrome) I will take a couple of photos if your interested.
Dave, always, first in best dressed. No problems.

Cheers Jim, believe me, I have been waiting and hoping I could find a 1600 for quite a time now, so when Scott offered I was stoked.
They seem to be a little hard to find, say in comparison to 1750 and 2L engines, and while the larger ones would give me greater HP and torque, I really like the idea of a warm 1600 in my project. Besides I have the original gearbox (fully rebuilt) patiently waiting for its engine
Scott, Jim's rear tail light lens sound the go. The spare ones I have are the ones you were after and the brake and indicator sections are non crazed, the painted on chrome is not perfect, while the clear sections are pretty good. As indicated you are perfectly welcome to have them for free if you wish, but I suspect Jim's ones would be better. Upto you mate.

A quick photo-update - spent the weekend cutting, sighing, cutting some more, welding, por-15-ing, priming, etc etc ..
Slow painful work - but at least it's getting done. I find with bodywork I really have to break it into little jobs or it overwhelms me..
Looks like we're both digging the gunk out of those rear valances Derek ! Mine was filled about 8cm deep with mud / leaves / sand... it was like strata in there - you could see the history of where the car had been located over the years. Had to replace a strip of the inner piece as wellas the outer.
I still haven't quite worked out how it all got in there - the rear wheel arch doesn't open in to that area - all I can think is that the boot seals were gone, dust / detritus has wicked in under the lid through venturi effect, and settled down the sides of the boot into that lower valance area....
In other news - the correct 0-90 ohm oil pressure sender arrived from Alfaholics and works perfectly. Love the quick wins !
Cheers,

Yes, I am gonna have to have a good poke around to see why it rusted out so badly. I had no boot seals either so I guess that is the most likely direction. You're getting there! I feel a bit depressed after pricing seals, bearings and syncros for a gearbox rebuild.
