01 166 Questions

Hello All!

I recently acquired a 2001 166 Super and the only two issues I've run into are:

1) The remote works perfectly to open trunk but takes sometimes 12-13 pushes of the keyless entry button to get the doors unlocked. I've reset the alarm and brain in the trunk, replaced the batteries on the remote and tried pulling the remote apart to clean the contacts (unsuccessfully)

2) the CD changer in the trunk seems to be inop -- is there a manual release of the CD changer tray? Any way to remedy this?

Side note, I'd love to get my hands on the Porsche CD for the satnav (US Maps) any idea on how I might find this?

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Rick and greetings from North Texas. And wow, a 166 here in the US. Hopefully you will get an answer but if not, you can post the question in the Alfa Owner forum.

The site for Alfa Romeo Owners

There is a section dedicated to the 164 and 166, mostly based in the UK.

Good luck and please consider bringing your car to our ItalianCarFest 2017 in September. We would love to have it on the show field.

Cheers,

As Jeff writes go to The site for Alfa Romeo Owners and ask your questions there on the 166 part.
Your 166 looks fabulous. I hope the dark area in front and under the front is not oil or coolant running out of the 166.
How have the 166 end up in Texas (bought it in Mexico and slipped it into Texas while the border guards had a coffee break ;-).

Dark area in front was because the photo was taken immediately post-car wash, luckily it was very well taken care of by the previous owner. This 166 was imported by a diplomat shortly after he purchased it. The car basically sat in a garage until it was traded in for a Porsche. Reina International Auto up in Milwaukee ended up with it and I grabbed it from him. It was imported legally and has been titled in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin and now Oklahoma. Pretty cool story and she drives like a dream.

Welcome to the 166 club. The Porsche navigation is not worth chasing, very old maps now without upgrades. I had use of the Nav system for a short while and it went away after I managed to perform a firmware upgrade. Your 01 may not be compatible.

Did it come with a certificate of Federal regulations compliance, meaning it had been converted if necessary to meet all Federal requirements? I've always been curious about the requirement for that, even if the car had been obtained from a diplomat. Esp curious about the 166, as it is so close to the 164 in design. Friend of mine in France has one, and he loves it for driving across Europe for business.

Yes, I had the CD changer jam. Not a nice solution. A gentle pry with a screw driver while pressing the release button should work.

Best not to ask too many questions in that regard and why OP probably hasn't replied. The car most likely came through Canada where anything 15 years old can be imported.
