First real outing of our Alfa for the spring.
After working on the car over the last few months to try to ensure reliability changing things like the plugs, alternator, HT leads, distributor, oil, oil filter, coolent, brake fluid and air filter cartridge and gaskets. And a steering arm, all the rear suspension bushings, we were ready to go.
Our trip? 3680 Kilometers in 9 days through 8 countries.
Day 1. Delft Holland to Heidelberg Germany
Day 2. Heidelberg Germany, through the black forest and northern Tyrol to Innsbruck, Austria.
Day 3. Innsbruck, Austria, through the Brenner Pass and lower Tyrol to Padova, Italy.
Day 4. Padova Italy, down the Adriatic Coast to Rimini Italy.
Day 5. Rimini Italy, through Tuscany to Siena Italy.
Day 6. Siena Italy up to Florence Italy.
Day 7. Florence Italy, through Maranello (visit to Ferrari Gallaria), Arese (visit to old factory and Alfa Romeo Museum) to Milan Italy
Day 8. Milan Italy, through Swiss Alps, Gotthard Tunnel to Strasbourg France.
Day 9. Strasbourg France, through Luxembourg and Belgium back to Delft.
The GT ran perfectly, often for hundreds of kilometers at high revs, we only used about 1.5 litres of oil across the whole trip and even when really hot, restarted first turn of the key no problem. It was comfortable, sure footed and even with it's 1300 engine, happily kept up with the modern traffic and got up and down the Tyrolean roads great. No cooling issues in some stop go traffic at 25 degrees C. Just perfect.
A highlight was obviously visiting the old factory that my GT was built in and seeing up close cars I'd only seen in pictures - really very cool.
Hope you enjoy the pictures.
