Amen, brother! A future goal of mine of to acquire a decent GTV to restore- I don't care what series! It has to be one of Bertone's most beautiful and enduring designs! I've seen some outstanding examples on this site, and it just inspires me to try harder to convince my wife we NEED a coupe- but one thing at a time, and first things first, as they say! Thanks for the comments- Dan

Wow ! Stay off the AlfaBB for a few months and I get replaced !!!
I knew from a few years ago that Alfa Ricambi had another Dan Walker on their mailing list, but it is just plain FREAKY that there are TWO Dan Walkers who BOTH have Duettos ( and who both use Santo - well at least when I can't do it myself ). If your wife's name is Dawn I'm calling Mulder and Sculley!
Here is mine.
Later,
Dan

Nice one, Dan! Nice to hear from a fellow Duetto owner, and with such a distictive name! I actually tried to email you through the Duetto registry some time back when I ran across the coincidence there, to no avail. My wife's neam is Julie, so we don't have to call in the Men in Black for this one! Hope to see you sometime- I gather you're out towards Valencia somewhere- I'm in Ventura Co (Camarillo)- hope to make some of the club events in the future. Cheers, Dan

Back on the road again!
Just a quick update- after rebuilding the engine, having Santo rebuild my tranny and do my head work, followed by a fine tune up in his shop in Northridge, we're finally breaking in the Duetto for daily use again! Taking it easy for now, but cruised down PCH to Zuma Beach and Point Dume this weekend- great day in SoCal for top down motoring! Saw a few Austin Healys, MGs, old Porsches, an old Mini Cooper S, but no other Alfas! Whats up with that? Anyway, great drive, the engine is breaking in nicely, just have a couple of minor things to fix- small exhaust leak behind the front muffler, and little oil leak on the back of the cam cover- easy fixes. The car felt good after being in rehab for the last few months! My thanks to Santos Alfa!

Just an update after the big site crash-I had previously posted a few pictures of the engine before re-installing it, as well as a couple from the Fathers Day car how in Thousand Oaks. My Duetto is running well and I have sorted out the little post-engine rebuild gremlins, so it's back on the road again much to my delight! I was not competing in any way as the body and paint still need to be addressed- I went just for fun and as a gift to my Father-in-law, Earl, to get him to show his restored '49 Hudson Commodore coupe- really a fun day, but out of all the outstanding cars shown that day, there were no other Alfas represented! Anyway, we had a blast, and Earl ended up placing second in drivers choice for postwar American closed cars, against some really tough competition. The car that came in first in his class was a '48 Tucker Torpedo that was trailered in for the event from Michigan- at least Earl drove his entry in! Anyway, a beautiful setting on the lawns at Cal Lutheren Universities campus with some really nice restored classics from every era and area- hope to do it again next year, maybe with some other Alfisti there!

Update
Ah, it's been a sad year for my Duetto. After rebuilding and sorting out the drivetrain, I had a year of enjoyable driving Then, just before my son entered the Air Force last October, I allowed him to take the Spider out for the evening and he returned it with a dent and scrape down the drivers side Then, a few weeks ago while driving home it started making a "valve type noise" -never a good thing! When I got a chance, a little troubleshooting confirmed my suspicions, and thinking a bent valve, broken spring or such on the number one intake valve, I removed the head to take into Santo for rework Once the head was off, however, I found the number one piston was broken right at the indent for the intake valve- having the head reworked wasn't going to fix that! To make matters worse, when I dropped the head off at Santos, Anthony showed me Titos '71 Spider, and after my heartbeat came back down to under 150 BPMs, I realized I am now finally forced to tackle my paint and body plans and continue the ongoing restoration. Actually, this was long overdue, but while the car was running good, I was in denial and put thoughts of continuing restoration on the back burner. Anyway, I am now properly motivated and have resigned myself to hemmoraging large amounts of cash to bring my Duetto back up to snuff. I won't be able to match what Tito or Osso are doing as far as level of restoration goes (incredible attention to detail!), but I finished pulling the rest of the drivetrain out today and will decide on a restoration shop in the next week or so to tow my beloved Duetto in for some much needed structural and cosmetic repairs. I'll be posting pictures as work commences to document the progress- wish me luck! Dan
PS- I am repeating this as a new thread on the Spider (66-up) site and will continue future updates on my Duetto there as work progresses- thanks for the kind words and support! Dan

Hi,
I see your name all over the AlfaBB, so I figure you're the guy to ask!
Do you know where I can buy a hardtop that would fit my 69 roundtail?
Thanks,
Al

I'd use the place that completed Osso's bodywork!

Hi Al-
Sorry, I've been off line/ on the road for a while. New hardtops are available from International Auto Parts I believe- they look very decent, and the lines go well with the roundtail IMHO. I believe they are basically the same hardtop that used to be made by a company called Parrish- I think another company acquired the molds and are now making them to order for IAP. They are a bit pricey, but then again, with what a new hardtop costs as an option for a new Mazda, BMW or Honda S2000, they start to look like a bargain if you need one where you live.
I managed to find a factory hardtop, which I also like very much, especially for the amount of glass and visability afforded. These are rare, but pop up occasionally on ebay or other Alfa club sites. There are a few other older design fiberglass hardtops around, some don't look good on the Duetto at all, again in my biased opinion.
Good luck with your roundtail!
