Newbie - pictures of my Alfas

Hi,

here are some pictures of my Alfas.

The first one is a '78 US Spider built on April 17th 1978 and sold in the US. The car was taken back to Europe (to Holland actually) more than 10 years ago and has had two previous Dutch owners that I know of. The PO has converted it to Euro bumpers, thrown out the SPICA and put in Dellortos. The emissions control stuff was also taken out . One curious thing about it, the PO also replaced some of the carpeting and when he was doing it he found a cash card from "Home Savings of America" with the name of what I assume to be a PO in the US so I might try and find him over the internet to get some more details on the car's history. I bought it six months ago in Holland and brought it to Germany.

The car is showing 40,000 miles on the clock, but I assume it will be more likely to be 140,000...or maybe 240,000

The car is in good condition, it has been resprayed in its original Pininfarina Red colour some years ago. At the moment I'm using the Winter break to do some minor maintenance on it like replacing the vibrating and worn rear driveshaft with a modern part developed by an Alfa specialist here in Germany (less wear prone).

Here is a picture waiting for the river Rhine crossing some weeks ago (the VW Golf parked right when I was about to take the photo )

and now the GTV.

I bought it some 2 years ago with 80,000 KM which again I assume not to be real, the car has had some 7 PO's and it shows (the photos don't really do justice to how bad the car is... it came with 225 tires and cheap aftermarket alloys which I quickly replaced with the Cromodoras, no bumpers and strange red and black aftermarket seat covers on the front seats with a stepnose rear seat ... the engine runs a little rough but the rest of the mechanicals seem to be OK. Bodywise it isn't so good, I now know that under that bad paint job lies a really nasty body... assume tons of bondo...or worse.

Strangely the car was built August 19th 1974 and sold to Germany in 1974 but only registered in 1977, what happened in between? Importer's compound? 3 years in stock? Or a dealer demonstrator? Who knows.

Original colour was Giallo Piper with black interiors. I'm tempted to return it to the original colour, don't see many yellow GTVs around and I think it looks cool...

This will be my long term project...

Very nice cars.

I like the steel bumpers on the spider, looks "right" , the US rubber ones make the car look like a amusement park bumper car. I also like the round mirror on the spider, I never cared for the rectangular ones for the late 70's spiders.

Give us some pics of the new driveshaft fix when you get a chance

a spider without the huge Federal side lights, looks so clean. I never realized how low Montreals were until I saw the photo of your GTV parked next to the white one, great cars, what's your daily driver?
