ARA Nicola Romeo Rally Pictures [not 56k friendly :) ]

Sunday was a fantastic day for a rally. I somehow convinced a co-worker to work my shift on sunday so I could come to this event. We all met in Palo Alto at a parking lot where we would leave at 1-minute intervals. George, the organizer of this event had made up maps and timecards for all of the participants. First off was the black 86 spider graduate, then the red 81 GTV6, then the white S4 spider, then my car(black 164S), then red GTV, then black GTV6, then red 86 spider graduate. We had some other cars show up a little later and they met us at the 1st checkpoint.

About 8:30am, cars start showing up...notice the pattern

Checkpoint #1 at Skylonda, CA. We had 40 minutes exactly to get here. 2 points/minute for being early and 1 point/minute for being late. We were there exactly ontime @ 10:44am. We left Palo Alto @ 10:04am.

Lined up and ready to go. Were waiting for the clock to hit 11:04am(for our car anyway) so we can head to checkpoint #2 which is at Pescadero, CA. We had 33 minutes to get there. I was driving and my dad was co-driver. we used out cell phones to count the time. One was set as a time and the other, a stopwatch.

Arrived about 30 seconds late in Pescadero because of some stubborn toyota camry driver, so on the last stretch, we had to make up lost time. I'm not going to talk about speed/limits...

Arrived @ checkpoint 3 exactly on time with no time to spare. In the handbook, it said it was at the Half Moon Bay Brewery parking lot, but it was in fact at the Meza Luna parking lot. So, the 164's 3.0L was again put to use to cover that few hundred yard distance.

(next 5 pictures)Not a participant or ARA member, but was there to watch the France vs. Italy football match. We were salluted by a load of italians shouting in italian and praising Alfa Romeo. I think the spray painted spider was awesome!

The Milano Verde joined us at Checkpoint #2 through the end to Half Moon Bay

Here, we're sitting at the table eating fresh bread and dipping it in olive oil w/a little vinegar and salt and pepper(my favorite!).

To our Right, there were the crazy Italians watching the game. What authenticity! this was not planned, but we loved every minute of it. It went from silence to blaring to silence, especially at the penalty kicks at the end. The celebration was insane!

Free appetizers were brought out. It tasted even better than it looked!

I ordered Linguini with seafood. Mmmmmmmmmm mmmm good!

After all of the scoring, we got 2nd place. We missed 1st place by just a few seconds.

Nice pics sean, how did you get around the 200K posting limit? Len and I had a good time at Todd's house and got a ride in his sweet alfetta, that car is so cool! Oh yeah, and I got to sit in his super clean Verde too, I think lenard is still drooling over it, as am I ! Looks like a decent turnout, glad you had some fun,

Jon

Thumbs up Great Pics

Thanks for posting all those photos. I was a bummed to not have been able to join you today (possibly bent upper shock mount ) The pics show that you had a great "Alfa presence" out there. Hope everyone had a great day with no mishaps or tickets.

Thanks again for taking the time to post these.

Great pictures, Sean! Nice to know a good number of Alfisti turned up for the rally! I was on the rally last year and had a really good time. Who won this year?

I noticed that John and Marilyn (of the red GTV) attended as well. Did you have a chance to meet them? I met them at One Lap of Marin two years ago, and again ran into them at last year's Monterey Historic Races - great people.

Updated with more pics/some video to come...

Jon, I got around the 200k posting limit by paying for their upgraded account. It's only a tiny fee and there's no bandwith limit or photo limit.

Green Dragon, get that fixed ASAP! We need you at our events

Dave, I won't take that Wickla' reg till they make me!! Our PD doesn't care. I even had an officer come inspect my car and make a report yesterday when it got vandalized and they didn't seem to care.

Broyax, thanks for the compliments. I wish our Gtv6's came with Euro bumpers like the one on my avatar. Which other cars are different? I thought the S3 spiders had the same bumpers as well as the 164's...

Grant, Your car looks great in the pics, but i've always thought Milanos sit too high! Yeah you should have stuck around for those crazy Italians!

Pat, Don in the red 86 graduate won first place. My father and I, as well as the two guys in the black 86 graduate tied for 2nd place and the two girls in the white S4 spider took third. Yeah, I talked to John & Marilyn; very nice people. I see them at most all of the drives.

Mr. Vercetti, I only use photobucket because I've already paid for it. It's easy to load 20 photos at a time without worrying about resizing them first. Thanks for looking

Yes, S3 Spids and 164s have the same bumpers as Euro's with some minor cosmetic changes though (painted ones with black rubber on Euro Spider 2.0 QV for instance).

The black GTV6 wheels are on the Alfa 90 only in Europe and on some other Alfas too (but 13" and 14"). I have the same on my 75.

As for the Milano US bumpers were re-exported and labeled "America" in the Euro Alfa 75 range (Turbo & V6). 15" wheels are the same too ! Alfa management is a bit odd sometimes
