Sunday was a fantastic day for a rally. I somehow convinced a co-worker to work my shift on sunday so I could come to this event. We all met in Palo Alto at a parking lot where we would leave at 1-minute intervals. George, the organizer of this event had made up maps and timecards for all of the participants. First off was the black 86 spider graduate, then the red 81 GTV6, then the white S4 spider, then my car(black 164S), then red GTV, then black GTV6, then red 86 spider graduate. We had some other cars show up a little later and they met us at the 1st checkpoint.
About 8:30am, cars start showing up...notice the pattern
Checkpoint #1 at Skylonda, CA. We had 40 minutes exactly to get here. 2 points/minute for being early and 1 point/minute for being late. We were there exactly ontime @ 10:44am. We left Palo Alto @ 10:04am.
Lined up and ready to go. Were waiting for the clock to hit 11:04am(for our car anyway) so we can head to checkpoint #2 which is at Pescadero, CA. We had 33 minutes to get there. I was driving and my dad was co-driver. we used out cell phones to count the time. One was set as a time and the other, a stopwatch.
Arrived about 30 seconds late in Pescadero because of some stubborn toyota camry driver, so on the last stretch, we had to make up lost time. I'm not going to talk about speed/limits...
Arrived @ checkpoint 3 exactly on time with no time to spare. In the handbook, it said it was at the Half Moon Bay Brewery parking lot, but it was in fact at the Meza Luna parking lot. So, the 164's 3.0L was again put to use to cover that few hundred yard distance.
(next 5 pictures)Not a participant or ARA member, but was there to watch the France vs. Italy football match. We were salluted by a load of italians shouting in italian and praising Alfa Romeo. I think the spray painted spider was awesome!
The Milano Verde joined us at Checkpoint #2 through the end to Half Moon Bay
Here, we're sitting at the table eating fresh bread and dipping it in olive oil w/a little vinegar and salt and pepper(my favorite!).
To our Right, there were the crazy Italians watching the game. What authenticity! this was not planned, but we loved every minute of it. It went from silence to blaring to silence, especially at the penalty kicks at the end. The celebration was insane!
Free appetizers were brought out. It tasted even better than it looked!
I ordered Linguini with seafood. Mmmmmmmmmm mmmm good!
After all of the scoring, we got 2nd place. We missed 1st place by just a few seconds.
