I love that about Italians. It is the same with don't walk signs. If there are no cars coming, people ignore the signs. I got used to doing that when I lived there, but if you get caught doing it here you get fined on the spot. Italians also often ignore speed restrictions around road works, which I think is very dangerous. The same goes for their refusal to wear seat belts. We always wore ours, but our Italian friends didn't. In general you feel more relaxed in Italy. In South Australia we have the highest fines in the country and the authorities are always looking for new ways to extract more money from your bank account.
plenty of room for a one-way and care was taken not to park on the pedestrian crossings!
