Is this part highlighted a steel part coverd in vinyl, or plastic? If someone were to post in detail how the entire shifter boot assembly goes together on the roundtails, I would buy them a steak dinner! If I can get mine sorted out, that's what Ill do.

Here's a series of pics to explain the Roundtail shift boot installation.

Pictured is a 67 Duetto onto which some PO had installed a Roundtail (68+) ashtray/lighter assembly.

This finish look is not correct.
The carpet (which is not original type) should be over the plastic form.

OK, so let's start with how it should be done.
The correct trans seal is clamped to the top of the transmission.

The steel shift boot support is bolted to the transmission tunnel over the rubber seal.

The second seal is clamped to the steel shift boot support.

The plastic form (with shift boot previously attached by the ring) is then screwed to the steel shift boot support with 3 Phillips screws.

The carpet is then installed over the shifter assembly for the correct finished look.

We don't have too many REAL Steakhouses around here...the closest thing is a Longhorn steakhouse but it's a might distant from Kansas!

Well I just about wept when I saw all this stuff. I'm allowed: I'm an old aussie tart doing battle in the bush with a car none of the locals want to touch (it's not a Holden ute). What a wonderful board this is. I am overcome with wonder at the help I have received. It all works even though I am standing on my head and the car is RHD :-)
