Hey Pietrogiulia indeed true, An Italian Love Affair. (oops that was a Fiat slogan back in the 70's). Nice clean GTV indeed.
Biba, I think I have only seen this car once before and that was some time ago. Actually the owner knew me from the past but I have forgotten his name. I kind of was aware of the project as I think I have read about it somewhere on the BB (possibly even this thread ??) but hadn't realised the car was in Hobart. He mentioned to me that the engine rebuild was going well and hopes to have it installed soonish. I think he mentioned about needing to sort out some minor things re integration between the Turbo and supercharger. I am sure he will keep all informed as there is progress.
Igabalfa, I am no expert on 116 Alfettas, but would have thought either '75 -r '76. I had a '76 1.8 Alfetta GT (RIP) and later on a "series 2" '76 Alfetta 1.8 sedan. But the sedan is another story, suffice to say that it was later fitted with the full running gear from a 90. Its a real Q car now. Hopefully I will get some photos of it soon and can post for all to see. The 2.5 V6 fitted really neatly under the original bonnet. The car has only recently been fully restored. Cheers Dave

1976 Alfetta GTV
I'm finally getting around to posting pictures of my '76 Alfetta GTV. I bought it a few years ago from the original owner, and it is unrestored with just over 90k miles.
These pictures were take near Mt. Pisgah on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. I put around 500 miles on it that weekend.

Nice car, Alan. I love the Alfa script on the hatch - very '70s
The Nardi looks great, too.

Yes its as classy as a rat with a gold tooth. Another example of bad taste for the US market on what is a lovely simple pure design-I wonder what tosspot in the marketing dept thought of that "enhancement".
Alan your car looks a lovely example though of what I think was one of the better designs to come out of the `70`s-nice to see a 116 appreciated, especially the 2nd series.
What it needs is a set of Euro stainless bumpers, like the version we got.

LOL - yes - that was an added "feature" to the '76-'77 Alfettas (both sedans and coupes). Apparently, the average Spam eatin' American didn't realize that the name "Alfetta" was meant to conjure images of Grand Prix victories, and was not meant to suggest a "little" or "lesser" Alfa. They tried plastering ALFA ROMEO in block letters on the car to fix that, but when sales still didn't pick up by 1978 model year, they dropped the name Alfetta altogether and renamed them the Sprint Veloce and Sport Sedan (which may have actually helped - as there were considerably more '78-79 model versions of these cars here than the earlier models).

Are you guys serious?
It may be kitsch now, but it was certainly not in bad taste during the period. Block letters stating the obvious were all the rage, and in that regard, the Alfetta was in good company.

I never minded it much on the sedans - it sort of set them apart. However, I really think it messes up the clean lines of the coupe.

I like the letters on the sedan. I've got them on my '77 and think that it wouldn't look right w/o them.
I found an original sticker for the back to replace the one on the car when I repaint it
Paul
Alan, I have a set of the dished alloy wheels that I have been thinking of getting rid of if your interested. I don't know how much they are worth. I just threw away a set of steelies like yours. They were in the way.

gt601, have you seen a European Alfetta Berlina, no big signage on its rear end at all-that looks like some home handiman has stencilled that sign on the back. Understatement is where its at- thats the sublety of a good design-doesn`t need lots of embellishment.

Paul, what can I say-I was thinking it but didn`t want to say it. Just as well we`re not all the same-the world would be a boring place if we were and we`d probably be all driving white or resale silver Toyotas.

i love this thread, so here's a few more
Had a bit of a tangle with a wall at sandown, so as you can see it's a bit sad at the moment. however it will make a full recovery and get a facelift as my way of saying sorry. At which point i will have a good excuse to again post on this thread!
