My 2nd Alfa

Hey BBers,

I just got this last weekend. I've always wanted a Giulietta but never could find one I liked enough to go through with it. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, I think the Giulietta sedans are the same as the sprints in wheelbase and drivetrain and they are a bit lighter. It's loads of fun and a lot faster car than you would think. The brakes are drums but work really well in fact everything seems to work very nicely. I think it was Pat Braden who talked about Alfa Sedans being far more than the sum of their parts because each item is weighted a certain way so it interacts with the others perfectly. The feel and feedback through the wheel for instance is totally addictive after I get out of the car I just keep thinking about the way the car feels and that great feedback it's so precise. Ergonomically the car is really comfortable and very relaxing to drive. Hope everyone likes the pics next time I'll try to get some during daylight.
Jeff

I always liked these cars. Congratulations. Yours appeares to be about a 1961 model judging from pictures in Fusi. The front marker light is the give-away. Does the Speedometer work? Great ALFA find!

What are your thoughts on using a column shift? I used one in an old Ford once but i would imagine the Alfa one would fell a lot tighter. Is it easy to get used to?

Thanks for the compliments, The car is indeed a 1961 model with a 4 on the tree and drum brakes at all four corners. This is the first column shift I've ever used but it's really not that different from a floor location. I was very surprised at how easy it is to use. The speedometer works and it's kind of a neat little gadget. I had always pictured the typewriter speedo as a single vertical line that moves across the the face of the speedo. The indicator is actually a long solid red line that goes across the face. I got a chance to go on a long drive this afternoon and I'm a little lost for words to describe it because it is so unlike anything I've ever driven. The body roll is a little scary at first but you can just add a dose of throttle to get it straightened up. It seems like it takes a little while before you can feel comfortable enough to go fast but once you get the hang of it you can just float it through the corners. I think part of this comes from sitting so upright.
