Difference between photosl
Yes. There is a crucial difference. Notice that on the picture I took in the Pebble Beach tent there is NO PININFARINA badge. And I believe I was told by the Dear Doctor who got some word from the ALFA (ala Fiat) hierarchy that the problem with putting out any publicity was that their deal with Giagaro had not yet been worked out. They had probably not yet cleared having that company make the car. Otherwise the car is the same. The photo I took was of the prototype.

although two liter is correct about spyder being used here in the US, like back in the dayyy. heh i can honestly say i hadnt really seen it spelled like that again until Mitsu and Toyota had to come over and confuse us all again with their MR2 Spyder and Eclipse Spyder. I always thought it was a British thing to be honest, dont they have a Spitfire Spyder? Or a TVR Spyder.. I personally will always call it Spider....
and oh yea, Dean's 550 Porsche im sure was called Spyder.

Wow! There was a Pinin Farina Badge
Boy, my old eyes are failing me. I failed to carefully notice that on the prototype there is what seems to be a Pinin Farina badge behind the door on the quarter panel rather that on the fender in front of the door. Perhaps the use of the badge before everybody was satisfied with the deal was also a problem. However, the Dear and Glorious Doctor can verify if Giagiaro (or however he spells his name) was the designer or not. I believe that is the information allowed to him (and us). Who put out the coupe? Are they the same? I honestly believe they just sawed the "bulbous" top off the coupe that someone else on the forum complained about, stiffened the chassis, put in the nifty little shiny rollbars, and let it rip.
BRING IT ON!! BRING IT ON!! Maybe I might yet see a new ALFA. I have been trying to figure out a scheme to get a current GTV or spyder into the US for a long time. Whenever we get another glimmer the plans go on the back burner. They better get it here or you will have to come visit me in the Federal Pen.

Dr. or anyone, what is the official credit given to these cars and to Giugiaro, with the history of Giugiaro's design credit taken away from him by Alfa (ok he asked his name to be taken off the Alfetta) but still, the guy does works of art and then Alfa gets an attitude if he doesnt agree with some of their changes? I blame Alfa.. Not Giugiaro.
And I have to disagree with anyone who says they cant handle a spider design by Giugiaro, from what I can see Giugiaro has completely revolutionized Alfa's badge with an entirely new lineup... ONCE AGAIN.. lets give this guy the credit he's do peepz.. Pinin is great but Giugiaro is great too.
It looks like Giugiaro did the Brera coupe and then the car was taken to Pinin to chop the top off....how typical.. Italdesign only has the Brera coupe on their website..

Some infos about the new Spider
The new Alfa "Spider" (this is the correct name) is going to be shown at Geneva Car Expo (2-12 March). The new Spider will have the same engines of the Brera (2,2 L 185 hp, 3,2 L V6 - 260 hp. Only the 3,2 has the 4WD option) and it will be built in the Pininfarina factory.
The style of the car is the result of a partnership between Pininfarina and Giugiaro: the Spider was born starting directly from the Brera coupé, for production synergy reasons. This car has the same wheelbase and width as the Brera but only the front side is the same. Behind the windscreen every part is different: Pininfarina has re-designed the shape of the doors, the interiors, the tail and a special canvas hood with glass window and electric movement (no hard-top available).
It's not the first time that an Alfa coupè has been "chopped" by a different coachbuilder (Giulia GTC, only to remember one)...
The car will be for sale on the italian market within april/may, and the production will be of 5.000/6.000 cars every year.
I hope I will be able to post some more infos after the Geneva Expo!
Ciao

So guys I had a nice day at Geneva checking out the latest Alfas and Ferrari.
I interviewed Baravalle directly after the press conference for about 5 mins. At first he laughed at looked up at the lights and smiled at me, before saying the following (summed up):
"We cannot say, we really have to concentrate on Europe before we enter the States. We want to enter the States properly, so we prefer to do it over a longer period than rush into the market and fail. Needless to say, the Brera and Spider are excellent cars for the market."
When pushing him for a date, he said:
"I really cannot say. Maybe at Paris you'll hear an announcement towards this matter."
I'll post all my pics when I get back from France - alternatively check Italiaspeed as they are also going to be used on there.

Jesus, I dont know what I like more.. The car. or the girl. Heres another model, no one ever comes close to Alfa's "models" in my mind.. Still hate those wheels. ugly. Im sure some people will like those for the retro feel, but they just dont go with the car at all...

Be warned though, Alfas can have a strange effect on owners; ‘Alfaholic’ a recognised condition among car enthusiasts
