Its Bathurst weekend here in Oz, and i just found a pic on someones facebook page with an Alfa GTV6. I had to post it. Its hard to see, but its behind the toyota. http://www.facebook.com/bathurst?ref=ts&fref=ts
That's a blast from the past.
1979 I'm pretty sure.
The Alfa in the background is a GTV rather than a V6.
Checkout YouTube "Bathurst 1979 race cam from Celica" to see an onboard lap in the early days with live running commentary from the driver.
Also an insight into how things have changed over the years.
I like this photo too. The caption reads aul Hawkins in the MW Motors GTV Alfa, here leading Ian Geoghegan's Falcon up the mountain, actually led outright for a while,as did the Geoghegan car, until luck beat both. View attachment 259881
Perhaps if the Alfa had won Australia would not be obsessed with Taxi racing.
The evolution of what racing was to what it is amazes me. Great pictures!
