Does this mean that if I want to convert my 81 to 73 spec it would now be impossible? No one else sells these brackets right?

Conedriver- Sorry but I am kind of thick. Is that metal piece between the rubber pieces something that was left over(part of the original bumper) or something you added? Does that piece go behind the grill?

The metal connecting piece is part of the original bumper, and it is positioned behind the grill when the modified bumper is mounted on the car (in it's retracted position). There are three U-shaped channels that sort of overlap along their length to make the heavy bumper structure. What you see in the picture is what was left after I cut away enough metal to allow the grille to fit in an original position. My original intent was just to retract the bumpers. After I completed this, I looked up under the center chrome piece (that simulates the top of an original grille - along the top of the stock bumper), and found the curved indentation in the bodywork that fits the contour of a real grille. At this time, I got the idea to cut the bumper. After removing the outer rubber covering, I used a hacksaw and chisel to cut away the steel bumper section, and made trial fits of the grille as I progressed.
The modification should be simple, since I already proved it is possible. However, the individual bumper channels are spot welded together at their top and bottom edges and it requires a lot of cutting, chiselling, and sawing to create the notch.

Well...dam Randy. That is a shame. You did a really nice job making them. And you were very helpful. If it has come to this and you are serious about giving away the prints/plans/templates you could send them to me, or George Schweikle, or Bud Fiegel in Lexington. Bud is a good welder and we can task him into making brackets. Welding is his torment.
BTW...I thought Simon nix'd the whole cannot sell here thing. Didn't that go bye bye? I am sure I read a post from Simon stating that. What's the latest you know?
Best Regards,
John M

at this time the plans and 1 front bracket are being packed to go to Big Sky country, If Bud wants a set I can ship it out next week.
Yes Simon repealed the vendors ban, that does not give me back the first disastrous month and a half of my business start up, concurrent to the debate on the Parts store was the DiFinzio thread, I might not have agreed with the ban but I did abide by it, and a few members took it personal, When the ban was repealed I posted in the suppliers's thread that an Email would get a small sample of the inventory in it's current form, no interest in that format. but the DiFinzio thread came back to haunt me, I never posted that I was accpeting requests by item description, here we go again, I can not redo the inventory in a format like IAP or Centerline, this is not sour grapes, DiFinzio is 1/2 of my NOS inventory, I just sent out 16 pages of excel inventory and that's maybe half of what I have, the format is in a form usable by that very small group whose interest and support was the reason I was able to get my head above water, Independent Repair Facilities. That my business startup was timed with the vendors ban was my bad luck, I never felt it was personal, postings and emails have been, and they continue, for both reasons, that I plan to sell, and that I won't format it for the BB's benefit. thats just absurd. I don't owe the bb the consideration that some members seem to think I do, as I see it the vendors ban accomplished only one thing, that the only vendor that was contributing a commision almost drown, every decision made after that was business. Simon repeal doeesn't change that, and it does not entitle members to insist that I sell to them them. I am a wholesale business, not retail. My market is the group that supported me.
the vendors ban resulted in a period of time in which there was no need to work on brackets because there was no market, and because there was and is no time. that should not be taken personally. I'll pass on all the info needed to 2 members, that ought to be good enough.
