Snaidy,
The GTV was actually designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro, while he was working for Bertone.

Yeah, but Bertone got all the recognition. Giugiaro does excellent work, so do all the other fellas.

ItalDesign is the best then...
ItalDesign's founder - GIUGIARO designed the GTV while he was in Bertone.
He designed a lot of my favorite cars, including the Lotus Esprit and Golf Mk I.
His designs are so simple yet so elegant.

... Well, sort of. He did the original design for the Alfetta GT. Due to some disagreements with Alfa over detailing, he wouldn't put his name on it. The GTV6 makeover (hood bulge, plastic front air dam, 2-tone rockers, etc.) was all Alfa.

I couldn't imagine how many cars were designed by GIUGIARO.
He's a genius.

Yes, he did.
That car had such an advance interior for that time.Too bad it's an Isuzu.

Where you going with that gun in your hand? (sorry, couldn't help myself.)
I just had the privildge of getting my hands dirty under the hood of an '85 Callaway GTV6! Oh man that engine was a piece of art! I'm just now realizing, like a dumbass, I forgot to take some pictures.
The owner told me that Alfa came up with the idea for a twin turbo GTV6, but couldn't market such a hotrod on US soil. So they turned to Callaway. He also told me that there were only 37 Callaway GTV6's made! I believe it was claimed to have 230hp and go 0-60 in 5.6 seconds!
Btw, what's deal with the Balocco GTV6? I thought they were more rare. What made them cook?
Thanks

I hope you guys are referring to the 1st generation Impulse. Cuz the 2nd gen. Impulse was nothing more than a Geo Storm with a rubberband on the rear axle. Both cars frequently challenged my '91 CRX Si. Unsucsessfully, I might add.
Whew, I'm calming down now.

Yes, we're talking about the 1st gen Impulse, with a tiny badge at the back saying Suspension Tuned by Lotus.
I just found out there is a AWD Turbo Impulse (2nd gen, i guess) in 1991.

"Btw, what's deal with the Balocco GTV6? I thought they were more rare. What made them cook?"

The Balocco is named after one of Alfas test tracks...Balocco. What makes it tick...well...nothing. It's your standard GTV6 but with some "special" trim.
There was a limited run of them...but other then the trim they are the same as every other GTV6 out there. In fact you'll find they can be had for pretty much the same as other GTV6s.
As far as the Calloway GTV6, now that is a beast. You should go read the article on www.alfacentro.com about Martin DeCampos Calloway GTV6 #1. He actually goes and interviews Calloway about the GTV6 program. It's very interesting. If after that you decide you absolutely HAVE to have one you can check the Alfa Centro classifieds for the one for sale...I thinks it's running at $18k. Something like that.
BTW Martin's GTV6 has been hopped up to put out something 300hp +/- from what I recall. Truly a monster.

Hello,
I'm Marino from Belgium (our capital: Brussels is better know) and own a '87 spider 2000 since a few years. I just discovered this site today and I like it allready.
I saw the your pictures of the Zagato and want to make you even more happy with the pictures of the spider version of this car.
You can find these on www.mecanicimport.com, search the alfa-list and you will find it at the bottom of the list as 1900 ss zagato.
Enjoy it !
