Pomona with the PCA was the first time out for Leela Alfa. Quite scary not knowing if it would hold together. But, not only did it run well, but we caught the Caymans and a WRX in the corners. It has grip, but they pulled away slowly on the straights. Got a few things to fix then back we go.http://www.leelamotors.com
True, true- I'm thinking of re-designing the front suspension with coilovers, and maybe something nice in the back too. -never ends. But at least it has plates on it and I can zoom around in it. That's very cool. kinda finished....
I would like to see more pictures as well. The car is beautiful, I think it's actually better looking than any production car, and better looking than any Alfa built in recent memory, including the 8C.
Of course I do have a lot of questions. Will I fit in it? I am 6'2" 210lbs, how do all the mechanicals fit? Is everything such a tight fit I won't be able to get the oil fitler off, change the timing belt etc. Don't laugh, I have seen cars where the engine has to be jacked up off the mounts to change spark plugs. Is that windscreen going to provide any protection? It looks really really low. Can I fit a supercharger or turbos in there (of course the answer to that is yes, but it's a question of how tough will it be). Obviously cost will be a big factor as well.
Hi Guys.... sorry for not getting back earlier. I thought these posts would come to my email. Some do some don't. Anyway, I'd be happy to send mor photos (i'll post them here), and I have been thinking about making more cars. It is all Milano/GTV6 running gear, suspension, etc. Everything in my car is stock right now. The car is very easy to work on. I designed it so that would be that way. That's why the hood and deck lids come off. Changing donuts is done from inside the p. compartment. In fact it's a pleasure to work on if you are good with a wrench.
There is lots of space in the ****pit. The limiting factor in my car is the roll bar and the spherical rod end mechanism on the front of the trans. I understand the GTV6 doesn't have all that crap on it. I want to change mine. That stops the seat from goin back more. Main question is how big are your feet, rather than space for someone 6'2".
Turbos would have to come forward of the motor. There is no room below the heads on the sides. Best I think would be a crank driven supercharger mounted in front of the motor. There is plenty of room there. There is no room on top of the motor. In fact the plenum touches the inside of the hood right now.
BTW- it is ablast to drive and easily caught up with a Cayman and a WRX in the corners at Pomona.

bye
Robin was kind enough to let me drive it a few months back when we got together. This first time I saw the car in the making was about 5-7 years ago. At that time it was bodyless, running around the parking lot looking like an over-sized gokart. It was facinating to see the project at that time, as well as seeing it complete, and actually get to drive it. It is a blast, feels like a race car, has tremendous acceleration with the stock 2.5 12v, shifts very nicely. I'm 6' and fit no problem, though it felt cramped at the feet. I didn't feel comfortable with the foot work, and I could not heel'n'toe etc. comfortably. Maybe it is just a matter of getting used to, but that would be my only suggestion: more foot space in the next edition. If I felt comfortable in an open race car, I would love to drive it on track. For that purpose, I think you should make a coupe version. All the best,
Jes
Hi Jes,
Good to hear from you! The foot well definitely needs work. I'm going to move the pedals forward a bit so heel-and-toeing is more possible. I was using the side of my foot to hit the gas pedal. Also the area to the left of the clutch needs to be made wider.
GT version??? hmmm. Leela GT- I like the sound of that. That what this car is for: fast grand touring and some race track use.
I would like another ride in Leela. Maybe this Sept. at Willow Springs?
Now if I can only find that 164 LeMons racecar from down your way that would be a nice couple of cars to have at our little Alfa Romeo party. http://aroschpd.org/events/2012/sep2012_ws_flyer_r1.pdf
If I'm there you got a ride!
BTW- Ed, if you are serious about a car, I would build a car for anyone interested, but not a kit car. I would do rollers, ie. everything finished except the motor & trans.
I've got a perfect 24 Hr.s of Lemons car- a GTV6> I paid nothing for it, and all it needs is a water pump and some work. It's got tenants living in it, misc. dents, odor, rust- all the right stuff to not get crushed.
