Anthony - the old GTA is indeed a splendid car.
I, however, would take the new over the old so I can use it daily (the climate control and plush seats, and low wind noise is something that goes hand in hand with daily use!)
If I had the extra cash, I'd buy the older one to race, or keep for a future generation to see/enjoy.

I love that photo of them nose-to-nose "looking at each other"
Hard to compare them though other than the name.
One's a comfortable four-door family sedan with a powerful engine, and the other's ... well, the other is a GTA.
One designed to sell well, and the other designed to win races.
In an ideal world I'd have both

I want BOTH!!!
Give me a 156GTA as a daily driver, and a GTA for track.
Life couldn't be any better.

The 156GTA and 147GTA aren´t really GTA. (A = aligerata = light). The new GTA are a very heavy car with a powered motor, but not “alliggerata” (Alfa 156 GTA: 1500 kg ).
I think that Fiat people use this name only for maketing issues (the same with the Fiat Stilo Abarth). A Reanult Clio, Honda Civic, Ford Focus RS... is more effective in tracks.
The “old” concept for GTA is in the new Lancia Fulvia coupe: less than 1000 kg, 140 Hp, 213 km/h and 0-100km/h in 8,6 sec.
I want a car like this last, in red with a black hood

Is it me or does the "new" gta look like a Honda Accord, Toyota Camry?
Sorry, but that car looks like any other grocery getter.
One positive thing I can say about the "new" GTA is that the engine bay looks really beautifull.
The "new" GTA makes the "old" GTA look even better when you set them side by side
Carlos, That Lancia is really nice. The American car market just sucks, most manufacturers(including the Japanese), dont import their full line up, thus we miss out on lots of cool cars. The marketing departments seem to feel the US only wants SUVs, pickups, and grocery getters. Im amazed that we got the new Nissan Z car over here.
Oh well, thats just going to make out old Alfas that much more cooler!!

I personally have no problem with a grocery getter that goes like hell.
It's gotta have >soul< though, if I am to live with it long term.
If you ever get a chance to drive a run-of-the-mill 156 (not even the GTA), and compare it back-to-back to the brand new Acura TSX for example, you'll immediately notice the engineers at Alfa/FIAT overran certain design parameters their marketing folks put in.

Be warned though, Alfas can have a strange effect on owners; ‘Alfaholic’ a recognised condition among car enthusiasts

Personally I think they ruined the GTA name by sticking it to those new cars (147, 156). The proper name would have been QV IMHO.
A GTA must have a highly stressed 4-cyl and must be light!
By dumping all dampening, stereos, elecric seats and all that other comfort-crap they could easily have it down to 1200Kg and that could be fun with a nicely setup chassis and that highly stressed 4-cyl mentioned earlier.
Maybe I should man my own GTA out of a TS... naa, I'll stick to RWD and 4WD for now, and turbos...
