While in Italy
Just two quick pics from my recent trip to Roma and Amalfi. My fav is the Spider.
While there, I saw a lot of 159/169/147/etc...didn't do too much for me, but the new GTs I saw looked very nice.
I also saw some very cool older Lancias and I even saw a FIAT X19 cruising down the winding roads of Amalfi. Of course, I also saw a few Lambos and Ferraris.
I struck up a conversation with our driver while in route to Amalifi from Roma about Alfa Romeo (I was impressed that the day prior, he knew the Spider I saw was a Series 4!!!). He complained that he didn't like the newer Alfas/Lancias/etc.
Hopefully more pics to follow.

Hi,
the silver car in the second picture is a BMW 1-series.
But the one in front of it is an Italian car, a Lancia Y 10.
Best regards
Hans

I think you mean 156/166/147, instead of 159/169/147. Alfa just started to sell 159, so I think the smaller sedans you saw are 156. The larger one, 166, is the successor of 164 (there's no alfa called 169 yet).
PLEASE, please don't mix up pretty 147 with F@*$in' ugly BMW . 147 looks gazillion times better than the silver German car pictured here .

Wow, that's pretty harsh.
The 1-series BMWs are not THAT ugly.
Just look at all these Catterac Escapades, the Rincoln Instigators, the
Ford Excrucions and all the other "urban assault vehicles"
That's what I call *****ing ugly.
Best regards
Hans

While I agree that the 147 is a better looking car than the 1er - at least the Bimmer drives the rear wheels, as god intended...

Well I admit that I just hate BMWs no matter what , but people, FWD alfas are not bad at all!! People here in the U.S. says that alfas should not have FWD chassis, but once you experience the latest ones (I'm originally from Japan and over there, you see alfas as often as you see SAABs here. My mom just sold 156GTA but she still has 147) ... the alfa DNA is still there !!

So amazing you guys are talking about BMW's, today, I see a brand new silver Z4, then like 2 seconds later, a brand new red Z4 with a owner who could be interchanged.. lol they looked like basically the same person, and playing the same type of bad corny music really loud...
I thought to myself, my god, is that what Alfa will be like when it gets back to the US? Yuppies with Tennis Caps on?? Noooooooo.
I will say, I think BMW hit it out of the park with the new 645, that cars badassz.
bytheway, this week ive had one person every day ask me about my car, now they dont even wait for the gas station, i get people asking me WHILE im driving, its getting dangerous.. I guess thats what new paint will do :P

To get you more familiar with the modern Alfas: these are 147s

Yes I think that too there both horrible looking cars and that BMW 1 series is very expensive here too when you can buy a 147 1.6 for nearly 10 grand lees than the bog standard BMW.

I make no apologies for being totally biased towards Alfa and all things Italian but I happened to be in a Bm1 while buying an Alfa 146 recently and to me the Alfa 147 is genuinely a much better car in every way.
No accounting for snobbery factor I suppose.

Ya thats all it is snobbery factor even though the car they have bought is a piece of crap.
The Alfa is alive where as the BMW is just a driving machine like they advertise.

I don't happen to think that the BMW 1-series is a particularly "ugly" car. While I do think that it can be made to look better, I very much admire the design philosphy behind it; a small rwd hatch with sports car characteristics.
And quite frankly, I do believe that if this car had an Alfa badge on it, enthusiasts would be climbing all over it. I mean afterall, isn't the only major flaw of the Brera the wheels that drive it? Even though the 1-series is not the calibur of the Brera, you have to admit BMW gets a couple of things right these days that Alfa doesn't.
I think that for the most part, all critisizms that Alfisti make to BMWs for their looks can easily be given back to Alfas by BMW enthusiasts who critisize the merit of calling a FWD vehicle a sports car.
