Not at all - I am wondering about this possibility, but I'm not knowledgable about the kits available. Are there credible looking Dino kit cars out there? The wheels look like slightly grimey Dino wheels - hard to fake, very expensive to buy for just a kit. Remember the Beck Porsche spider? From a distance, it sure looked real.

PSk: "Me thinks the owner knows exactly what it is hence the tarp, etc. ... "

I think so too, but why out in the alley rather than in the garage or in SOME garage? It appears to have been parked there recently - it's not sitting on rotted tires, it's all full up. The cover fits it, but has a lot of other junk piled on.

AlfaKidGtv6: "Something smells fishy, but good luck. If you do get a serial number please inform me."

I'm suspicious too, but it looks real. You know the way a Dino has a few inches of textured black at the bottom of the panels? It's right there. And there's only one car with buttresses curving around just like that (except for a good kit).

Another note - it's one house away from a slightly ratty 914 for sale ($1750 if anyone wants it!) Same guy?

Oh yes, it is

It's very real, very nice, and has a fairly interesting history. Stopped by with my teen-aged son and his friend, met the very friendly owner and talked for a couple of hours. He bought the car in London long ago, then converted it to LHD when he moved back to the US. He had to install all the emission stuff and put US marker lights on the sides as well. It is in very nice, original condition, with normal wear and tear, euro and US side markers. He says it runs great and is just a blast to drive. Does all the work himself. It is only outside temporarily because he is clearing out the garage it normally lives in. NOT for sale - sorry boys.

He has another garage with a Corvette Stingray convertible undergoing a frame-up restoration, and an Indian motorcycle in pieces. He used to drive a GTV, but it was totaled on the street in London.

The 914 is indeed his, and is for sale.

Serial number on the Dino for you historians is 06938 if I wrote it down right.

Oh!...and two blocks away was another sweet find! You've just gotta get out there and walk those alleys.

If i picked up that Chev pick-up, i would freshen up all the driveline and leave it looking just like it is on the outside

Exactly. You wouldn't want to paint it. Below an old ranch symbol on the door, it says Drummond, Montana. Belongs to a guy who runs a local winery now.

Good advice Anthony. I wish you would have been with me the other day when I found a 914 with GT flares, a 911 five lug conversion and 7 and 8 inch Fuchs. Its rust free and drives, though the brakes need to be bled. The guys asking $3000 OBO. I couldnt contain my excitment... though nobody will care here since its not Italian.

WOW, thats pretty nice. All you gotta do is an engine swap and hit the track.

Heres a couple more of the GTV. As you can see its a little rough in the left rear and it needs to be lowered again. I think its photographs a little better than it really looks!
Also, here's a pic of my 911 when I first got it. Its pretty much done now but I don't have any current digital images. The TR6 WAS perfect until it caught on fire from the tripple Webers backfiring.

The 1750 GTV has a 2.0-liter with bigger cams (not sure the size, since the motor was already in the car when I bought it, maybe 11mm?) big valves, higher compression pistons (11:1 I think) ported and polished. Has SPICA with Quadraflow filters. No header yet, but has a side exit exhaust. The idle is pretty lopy, but I drive on the street on occasion.
Yellow Konis all around, Front springs are lower than stock, not sure what kind. Rear springs were cut, larger rear swaybar. Locked rear differential. Interior has been gutted, has two Cobra race seats, Autopower rollbar, old Raid wheel, sparco shift knob.
The Enkie wheels are totally incorrect but were cheap and have Khumos.
And its a blast on track days, except for yesterday when the exhaust fell off, ending my day.
