Get your cars straight, a Chevy motor will never, I repeat never, sound like a Mustang. Try Corvette or Camaro.

Alright... a bit of a Brain Fart.
Let me rephrase that... Will this sound like a Corvette?
Don't get me wrong... I like the sound of a Corvette... when it's coming from a Corvette.

OK...ok...so I lied...

For anyone that doesn't know what's up....here's the thread to what happened to my car: A $20 mistake....

Its taken a while to get started on the repairs, but I finally got the car over to my buddy's house. My wife and I recently bought a house, so that's been taking all of my free time...work has been taking what's left. I still don't have all the parts I need to repair it, but at least APE was nice enough to drop my new tunnel section off:

My buddy has a sweet set up...new air compressor, and we borrowed another friend's plasma cutter

So...here's the progress so far...we decided to cut out the bad stuff...leaving plenty of room...next we're taking out reference points and measuring out on the new piece...we'll measure it up real well, then cut and fit it into the car...amazing how just having the bad section out makes me feel better!

This:

Became this:

Was this photoshopped?

Oh...and the Vortec...well, its for my buddy's Land Cruiser...hahaha

which he's rebuilding himself...

Ted

Oh, and Jeff...thanks for all the help man....can't wait to buzz it over to your place once we get it all together...now that we're neighbors and all By the way, you know Bruce Turner?

My buddy Scott (who's graciously helping me with the work, and storage..hahaha) has been one of the best friends I've ever had...thanks goodness...not only is he helping me with my car (and all the times he's been a pal in the past), he's also talking some sense into me. We're going to coat the underside of the car with Herculiner (already on order)...and he's even got some left over POR 15 for the interior...he's talked me into getting my new Magnaflow stuff on the car (THANKS AGAIN SIR, you know who you are) and has been going around helping me get the car back in order. Thanks Scott!

Here's a little update....the new section is cut pretty rough, so we can fit it properly....but as you can see in the photo...we'll start the duct taping and caulking of seams next Thursday!

After a bit of caulk and tape, it'll be as good as "A-Team" new!

Oh yeah...and I thought this was kind of funny...bits of welding material were strewn all about the floorpan! Messy buggers...its even painted!

Got yet another update...we took last week off...busy getting ready for our big move....we are all moved in to our new place (just not unpacked)...I spent a solid 4 hours on Thursday, measuring and cutting in the new section of tunnel...and then my friend went and ruined it by going crazy with the plasma torch! (see the pic)

He seems to think we can float in some extra metal in the weld and repair the unnecessary cutting....but really...we're talking over a foot of metal cut out!

See!?

Oh yeah...sure...it had rust....:P And he wants to mess with all his new metal shapening doodads...

Jokes aside...we got in there and started tapping around the driver's side pan...it was rusted pretty bad...so out it came.

The new section of tunnel is SOOOO close to fitting correctly...I just need to cut down a few more edges. Then it'll get all nice and cleaned up. After that we start the put it in place.

I bought some Herculiner on eBay...truck bed liner that you can apply with a paint roller...we are going to power wash the underside of the car, and then apply the liner...I'm a bit concerned about living right next to the ocean now...so this should help keep more rust away.

Ted

Ha....yes, I see why modifying a 30 year old car would keep Alfa away...if that is what I was doing...
