Anyone know more about this particular car?

The car they were probably talking about is the 1938 MM spider; the car currently owned by Ralph Lauen. He bought it for an undisclosed amount (but believed to be 10 million) from Mrs.Serri after Bill died, and had it totally restored. Without checking, I think 4 cars of this type were built, and 3 survive. The 8c2900B Le Mans coupe might actually be worth more!

An advisor to the Alfa Romeo Historical Archive, who drove this car on two tours last year, told me he estimated the value of the Le Mans car at $20-22 Million.

But these owners each have a million or more invested in these cars, and don't have any monetary restrictions so as to make them relate to the problems of us just ordinary Alfisti. ...

Exactly. This is a private tour of a bunch of wealthy guys rodding their priceless cars across the wide open spaces like they are supposed to be driven, not a car show. If you're as fortunate as our friend with the photos here and happen to see them go by, lucky you.
Several years ago, we were visiting my wife's parents at their place north of Bigfork, MT, just south of Glacier National Park. I saw a blurb about historic Alfas on a Glacier tour in the Missoula paper (100 mi south), so I had my eyes open. I was out in one of the fields near the highway when I heard this 8 cyl roar in the distance. I could only compare the sound, due to my lack of exposure to these engines, to a big block V8 with large diameter straight pipes, but also completely different. An amazing sound. My son and I ran over to a hill overlooking the 2 lane highway (MT 35) and were treated to a high speed parade of maybe a dozen straight 8 Alfas (and some sixes?) blowing by, all goggles and smiles. Mostly open cars, one baby / sky blue, one dark coupe (same one??).
I have no idea what the event was, but I remember some had come from CA to Seattle, then more joined in, and they were headed to Glacier Park and then maybe down to Yellowstone before returning to Seattle. It was supported by Lexus, strangely enough, which had a shiny support semi following and some early production (ES300?) sport sedans bringing up the rear.
Does anyone remember anything about this drive?
I still remember the sound.

You might have to subscribe to get the price guide. If you like older cars, particularly Alfa's, it is well worth the subscription cost.

Vivace -
I remember that tour as well. They came through here, spent two days and were gone. I can't remember which year, maybe six or seven years ago. They headquartered at the same resort as this trip and some of the same cars were there.
Fletch -
Go to www.sportscarmarket.com for the guide. The online requires a subscription ($48.00 I think) and is updated quarterly, but you can order a printed copy for about $15 that is put out yearly.
To all-- I am stll trying to figure out the Irfan site to properly format the rest of the pictures, so please be patient. Any quick instructions, Ruedi? Thanks.
