Survivor vintage racer, help me find my history.
Hey guys, this is my 58' Veloce Spider. It came out of the John Murphy collection in Atlanta. The original number of the car was 88. Im starting to dig up more information helping me find this car. Many names and many dates but it will all pull through. Thats about all i know, if you know anything about the car or places for me to look i would greatly appreciate it and the car would as well. I have the engine and carbs all redone to perfection, i am looking forward to driving the car in short time.
Cheers,

Sorry I can't help you out with any info, but that's a beautiful Alfa you have. Lovely patina on her, too.

Have you tried Paul Spruell? If the car and previous owner were active in Alfas and racing in Atlanta they must have run across Paul.

You might on the Giulietta forum, or join the yahoo 750/101 list, where there are plenty of knowledgeable folks.

This looks like a car that was in Bellville IL, about 5 years ago,
is the right door jam wrinkled up, if so I think it was a west
coast car when new, then went to Atlanta in the early 90's

Racecar
Hi
Not much help, but with those reflectors on the back, I bet that it was flat towed to the races in it's original life. I've seen a lot of photos of Giuliettas racing in the old SCCA magazines. Find someone with a complete collection. I have a few from that era.

It looks like there was a small windscreen on it. There are 2-3 tabs showing. Do you have photos of the interior and engine bay/

Does anyone have a small windscreen? Or know a great place to purchase a windscreen that would fit this car? I would love to have an aged plexi glass windscreen to match the rest of the patina.

Windshield
Hi
I have a small screen off of another similar car that was wrecked and parted out many years ago. It may not fit those tabs on your car. It has it's own aluminum fittings. Cars that came through Stoddard's came with Brooklands windscreens which usually are fitted to English cars, so are unusual on Alfas. No one makes an actual Alfa racing screen that I know of.

I'll send you a picture of the little one, if you like.

A Doug McCaig from Washington raced an Alfa Romeo (FProd) in the 19660917-18 (3 races) and 19661015-16 (3 races) SCCA Regionals at VIR, but with no. 68
A Sidney Rust from Indianapolis raced a Spider1300 (GProd) with no. 88 in the 19710619-20 Road America Nationals, Race 5

Just PM'ed you some other information and trying to find out some details for you. Have you seen this picture from the '73 Regionals at VIR? It is a Doug McCaig from Washington driving what i suspect is the same car.

Getting in touch with Paul Spruel (as suggested above) is a great idea. When we visited Road Atlanta in the min-90's for a Historic Sportscar Race I met both Paul and Mr. Murphy.
It was my understanding that Paul assisted Mr. Murphy in the maintenance of his Alfa collection, so it make sense that he might have information on this racing alfa
