I once owned a GTA where the actual chassis number ended in 547 and the stamping on the trunk lid was 549! It would seem that this error happened on the assembly line as there is practically no other chance for panels so close in production to end up on the wrong car, or the man on the assembly line grabbed the wrong stamp? Too much Chianti at lunch perhaps.

Okay I went home last night and checked ShireGTV's boot lid (a normal 105 series 2000 GTV boot/trunk lid) and no numbers. I did not check my cars bonnet lid ... and thus I have to ask, are GTV's supposed to be numbered too or was this something done to manage the more hand building of the GTA series ? (maybe).

More on Numbers

I have also owned a couple of 2000 GTV's, 1972 and 1974, they both had the last three digits stamped on the frame of the hood (bonnet) lid. These cars were both delivered new to Australia. I still have one of the bonnets ,because it was damaged in a race accident, so I will take a pic when I can get to it.

Cheers
Andrew

That's a lovely engine bay, gtaj. Where does your oil cap vent to?

Lovely pics! That crank is fully counterbalanced! What a unique item. Tiny tiny stroke. Must be so smooth.

Is the transmission's mainshaft hollow as well?

more mechanicals

some more shots of mechanicals.

pistons

con rods

this is kind of a jumble but you can see the bellhousing here.

headers - unique to the gtaj

valves, springs, and distributor - the one on the left is 1300 gta and the other is 1600 gta

1300 gta twin plug head. this is different than the 1600 gta head because the intake ports on the 1300 were smaller in diameter. autodelta started doing this with sleeves on their racing 1600s and it was implemented as a design change when the 1300s came along.

Hello all!

I hate to ask this, but on my ex GTV, I had that same rear end housing on my car. I always thought it was for a Sliding Block, but never had anything to comapre with to tell. I just knew my rear end housing was different.

Is this worth something? Or were they common to find?

Just Curious...
