Thanks for mentioning that.

I’ve been back and forth whether to put it on a dolly or not thinking it might make it easier to paint in the wheel wells and under side. Maybee it would be best to have it straightened first then put on a dolly before spraying? What do you think.

Agree.

Cars without wheels are a real pain ... I know I've had to move my shell a few times and it's nearly been murdered in the process, either by accident or my temper rising . Also my car has had a wheeled dolly and it's still hard work.

Anyway cars need to be on their wheels for a chassis straightener machine I believe.

HI Simon, Glad to see your getting the GTV ready for body work and paint.
can not wait to see it with a new paint job, i think it will probably look better than when it was new. Back in the 70s the factory paint jobs were not to great. I assume you are going to paint it red again.

Best regards,
Bill

YES it will be painted red! Bill I heard you got yourself a berlina. When do we get to see this car?

Tonight I started to take the motor apart. I was surprised to see less carbon build up then I expected. I’m also happy that the head came right off without any of the troubles I read about.

Stay tuned for the next update…

Simon,

Glad to see you are moving on your car, when we spoke at Concorso it sounded like you were almost ready to throw in the towel and buy another shell.

What is your timeline to get it back on the road? Who's doing your body and paint?

The engine and interior are out of my 72 GTV and I keep thinking I should just go for it and get it painted... I'll start another thread if I do Always loved that Olive Green Metallic!

At least values are such right now on GTV's that you aren't horribly upside down in the car if you do all this work, even if it is a labor of love.

Yeah, just keep track of the actual hard costs. The labor is free, unless someone crashes into you, then's it's $60 per hour. But try to keep a running tally just so you do know what your actual material costs and labor hours are. It is helpful, and you will have a complete record of every part you have installed.

I've got about $3,200 and 400 hours in my Junior. I imagine it's barely worth the hard cost, let alone the labor. But, it never was about money.

So yes, congratulations on a very nice project to begin with. Have lotsa fun.

Well I found out the cause for the cars low oil pressure at idle. As Bill (previous owner) mentioned to me he thought it might be due to missing lost crank oil plugs. He was right. Hopefully these two plugs are all thats missing.

I made a thread under "engine building" for future reference with more photos.
