Smile New guy with Pix.

Hi All! I am a new member here but have been reading the posts for some time now. This is a great resource and a lot of fun too. I am new to owning an Alfa so I'm sure I'll have questions.. Thanks in advance! I have always been a big fan of Alfas and Giugiaro designed automobiles and have finally got around to owning one.. So, attached are some pix of my new toy! It's a California Alfa with really no rust. Just two spots under the paint by the windshield and one in the water trough above the driver door. It has been repainted at some point but who ever did it did an awesome job. Super Juicy and strait highlights! I really like the look of these cars with the bumpers off so I removed them. Anything to make the overhangs on a car smaller is a plus in my book! The small holes in the fenders are still in the car but I photoshoped them out of the pix because they kind of bum me out. Someday I might get them filled and go with the euro side markers as well. The car really needs to be lowered too... And supped up.. and.... There's no end is there?? I guess that is what makes it so fun!! Thanks for checking it out.. I think I'll go drive!!!!

Aaron.

Nice looking car.

Suggestion ... if you packed the bonnet hinges up then your bonnet would sit flusher with the front guards. Maybe when she was painted they lost the original spacers/shims.

As you say a beaut paint job ... enjoy.
Pete

The back end looks especially clean! What lights the license plate?

Hi Pete, Thanks for the suggestion! That offset has been bumming me out too.. I'll give that a try.

Hi Ken, Nothing is lighting the plate as of yet. Any sugestions? I've seen some license plate frames with built in lights but haven't found anything cool yet.

Great looking GTV!!! really nice.
What have you used to fill the bumpers holes? I've seen many use grummets but it looks like you've found some sort of chromed piece....good touch.
Yep lowered, performance tyres and you won't know the car.
Again - impressive GTV....any engine pics?

Cool thanks!

James, I used some stainless carriage bolts, washers which I polished, and a rubber washer of the same size behind that to keep the paint safe and the water out.

Your 1750 is awesome as well. I love the way it sits on the wheels.. Color is cool too! What springs and shocks do you have on it? I would love for mine to sit that nice.

Here is an engine photo The PO had painted some of the engine bits silver and red which I have been working on removing.. Still have to get to those head bolts and a few other parts.

Seeing as you used those carriage bolts in the front, you could do a similar job with the little holes in the sides as well. I saw a GTV at a convention which had some body colored plastic plugs. These were the kind used to hold interior trim on various cars which can be found at any local auto parts store. Just use some plastic paint if you cannot find the right color plugs. One advantage to doing it that way is that you can easily re-install the bumpers should you or a subsequent owner wish to do so.

Wow! Love that color. I seems to glow under the lighting conditions. Were the photos taken near sunrise or sunset? What is the color?

Thanks Aaron - welcome to the board BTW.....nice engine pic as well.
I'm running yellow konis and with what I can only call sports springs. Unfortunately I cannot tell you the brand, spring rate or their height without chatting to my old mechanic (unlike so many others on this board of whom I have great admiration - the majority of my restoration has been done via my cheque book and therefore I do not know all of the finer details about my car - this changes daily though with driving).

See attached an idea for your license plate - more details ca be found here for them: http://www.dalhems.com/
go to electronics - "lite n bolts" $33 USD

Very clever James ... and as much as many of us try and do as much ourselves our cheque book still is the most important tool in the tool box.

I think it is impossible to do all the work on any restoration, ie. I'll be buying a new wiring loom, not making one myself, etc.

Pete
ps: I do most myself because my cheque book is not as good as I'd like it to be ...

A mortgage, wife and children are a strain on anyone's cheque book Pete....my only dependant is my car and my only liability is myself .
I'd claim credit for the lights but the idea came from Fred in Sweeden - see link : http://web.comhem.se/~u43800299/index.htm

how is your car/garage/new house travelling anyway - shoot me a PM with any updates

Thanks All for the suggestions and kind words!

Bill, I'm not sure the actual color, looks something close to Ferrari red. It's not original Alfa red as the engine bay is a little bit cooler in color temperature. I took the photos at sunset when the light was just rite.

James, Thanks for the license plate light idea.. I like it! It's simple and doesn't distract from anything. I'm with you and Pete's comment on the check book in the tool box.. At least until I learn more and for sure on the things that will kill me if I screw up!

Thanks again..

Aaron.
