Pictures & Story of my 90 Quadrifoglio
I've been meaning to do this for a long time so I've aquired a lot of pictures that I'm now dumping into this thread. So It's a bit long. Everybody likes pictures, right?
The background first. I bought the car from the original owner in when it was 3 years old in '93. It had 25k miles on it. The owner was a Berkeley hippieish girl (wearing the Rupert tie-dye shirt) who actually drove the car down to L.A. for me to look at. Her husband originally bought it for her as a Valentine's Day present. Their marriage didn't work out and the car just wasn't her. I think hubby bought it as an excuse to drive it. She needed a pick-me-up truck to haul her horses and I bought the Alfa.
I've put another 138k miles on the car and the engine is still running strong without having to rebuild it.
First set of pictures is of the paint restoration I had done a few years ago. Front was done a few years earlier from a minor accident and the rear and bumpers were showing age and wear.

Interior: That's my new Pioneer radio and optional Ipod Controlling unit. The thing on the steering wheel is a radio remote that also controlls the Ipod. Ipod can be hidden in glove box or wherever. It's awesome. Seats are original.
Some engine pictures also. Note, the 90 engine differs from earlier Quads. The engine is almost the same as the 91-94s with the engine management, radiator, electric fans, coolant and wiper bottles, but not their power steering.

90Q,
What a great paint job! What kind of paint did you use? How may times did you block it?
Fine work.

I've told you before, it looks sweet. No power steering. Thats the way I like it other than for parking.

If you are asking because you are looking for a good silver and starting from scratch, I'd go with one of the bright reflective ones they use on German cars. Even saw a nice one on a new Scion TC. This happens to be a PPG equivalent (that's the system this shop used) of the Glasurit original color. I don't know about the sanding, but they had to do the job twice becaue they messed up the paint the first time. In the end I had to do a lot of hand sanding and overspray removal myself. From other repairs and looking at cars I've learned that silver is apparently very hard to get even without spotty motteling.
Also, learn from my mistake — Sometimes shops have an A team and a B team. This shop was recommended by a club member, I checked out some of the cars they were working on, Ferraris and exotic Alfa, and the work looked top notch. Turns out the A team I was expecting wasn't the the one to do the work. I was very specific about what I wanted, but it turns out I should have asked if there was a different team or painter that would be doing my car and if I could expect the same quality as what I was looking at.

Thanks for all the nice words.
Here is another batch I took yesterday inspired by the photos Biscione took at Craig Park. I just detailed the car and finished off with the new Meguiar’s NXT wax. I'm experimenting with getting shots of good reflections off the paint.

Fantastic. I really appreciate a nice straight body with a deep 'wet look' paint job. Nothing else compares to it, and that is exactly why I will soon be pulling apart my car for a proper full respray to my specifications.
I believe the reason why so many old Alfas end up off the road are due to sh!tty paint jobs and lack of cosmetic care causing prospective buyers to look elsewhere . Then once they sit for a while, all the mechanicals go haywire from lack of use. How many nice looking Alfas have really bad mechanicals? Not many.
Sometimes I wish more people would save up for proper body restorations like this rather than worry about what cams or high comp pistons would work best for another 10hp.
Just an opinion of course!

This absolutely sucks!!! I can't believe this *hit. I have a 64 Giulia Sprint GT and I'm always looking in my rear view mirror due to people constantly being distracted, cell phone, makeup, wanting to read the script on my trunk lid, etc. And SUV driver's are the worst. Insist that the insurance company fix your car!!!! Speak to an attorney if necessary. You put a lot of love and money and effort and energy in this car. Don't let this guy's/gal's negligence be your loss. Best of luck.

This car looks like it was in perfect condition. Good thing you have lots of photographs to support your case.

I'm just very sad about the whole thing and don't really know what I'm going to do if they total her. I put so much time and money into fixing her up and keeping her over maintained so I could enjoy her for years to come.
