Gheesh! I've corrected my first post. We went through there about the same time you did on the 21st. I often forget which day is which.
It seems to me there are a bunch of Spider owners who bought them because they're "cute little convertibles." The one you saw was probably driven by someone who wouldn't recognize a different type of Alfa if it bit him/her. I, on the other hand, would have honked and waved.

Could they have been going too fast to wave? Happens to Alfa owners sometimes

Good point. That happens, too. But I've had Spider drivers look at me blankly when I wave from my GTV. No offense to the Alfisti who drive Spiders -- I've had several and love them -- but not everyone who buys one understands what a special car they've got.

I'll second that - I've posted it before, but once I honked and waved at a Spider and the driver flipped me off (and yes - I was in an Alfa!). There are so many Spiders in these parts that a good chunk of owners have them because they're cute convertibles. I no longer try to extend greetings to Spiders unless they initiate it first.

I've had spider owners stop me when I park and ask "what kind of car is that and who makes it?" while I'm in one of my Alfa's. A lot of spider owners have no clue that there was any other Alfa ever imported to the U.S. or even care to know.(obviously if you're here you're not included in the aforementioned group of spider owners) Like posted above, cute Italian convertible from that Dustin Hoffman movie.

Gary, I too had a brain fart. It was Thursday the 20th that I went through Yreka, I saw the Spider on Friday morning of the 21st. Is this what it means (memory fade) to get old? If so then I don't like it.

On the other hand, about the only other kind of Alfa I see are Spiders - and they have all been warm and friendly. It was the 164 owner who gave me a contemptuous stare when I honked and waved! Fiat Spider owners and the one Ferrari owner I saw have also been good about waving, smiling, and even complimenting.
Drivers of spiders (spyders?) of other marques, however, won't even look - even on the rare occasion that they have their tops down.

This exchange must be pretty amusing to the age-advantaged on the BB. Here we are, can't remember what day we saw what, or even if it was just a dream.

Red 86-90 Spider at a repair shop on Spring Valley Road in Dallas... Somewhere west of 75 but east of Hillcrest, I forget exactly where - I was in a courtesy van after dropping off a car for servicing. I keep meaning to go back to see it (and to see if the shop is familiar with Alfas!)
Anyone here?

Way back when in the early '70s I drove an MGA, my first car. At that time, all the sports car drivers waved at each other. There was this great feeling of shared experience that I don't see too much of any more.
It was similar to my experience riding motorcycles. There was a time when it didn't matter what you rode, just that you were riding. Now, not so much.
I refuse to give up though, heck I still wave at drivers of old Volvos...most of whom think I have lost my mind

I still wave to other motorcycle riders. Most all wave back. Hard-core 'harley-jockeys' in their vests & "RUBs" more or less ignore me. I just think that those folks don't have a clue what a BMW motorcycle is! I know that the Miata drivers have no idea what my Alfa is---when I wave or nod to them they just look stunned!

When I ride in AZ almost all bikers give the left hand down salute to me. I have a Buell but it looks like a rice rocket so I can understand the custom and choppers if they don't, but they do there. Here in Cali it's different. I feel it's a us versus them mentality for the most part. An educated HD rider will acknowledge a Buell but many corporate bikers will just drive on. The V4's may rev and try to race, the BMW guys are pretty cool though. Hey we all ride right?
And by the way the frame is constructed it Italy!

Alfa's are seldom seen here in central NJ (at least in my area), but there was a late 70s spider at Milltown Foreign Car, along with a De Tomaso Pantera GT5. Besides that spider, I have seen one Milano, a single 164, and the same GTV6 that has not moved for as long as I can remember. That's pretty much it.

Long Island - NS Parkway Dix Hills
on Friday at 5:15pm heading west . First though it was a 164 but then, couldn't have been a Sud could it? Don't really pay attention to much other than GTV's . I was in a Blue S-10 Blazer and tooted my horn. Oh, it had an out of state plate "Alfa33."
