Yeah, the new owner, a 'P' plate driver managed to crash it within 3 weeks of owning it!

Oh well... i pretty much decided it was gone for good after it was sold anyways... but still what a waste. He wants to fix it but its apparently $6000 in labour alone. It sounds like a write-off from what he told me over the phone. He wanted me to write out a receipt stating he bought it for $10k but id rather avoid the possible legal ramifications associated with a stunt like that.

Some good news is that my 105 is going into Tony Pallas' shop next week. Hope to have it back on the road before christmas if all goes to plan

Mate I'm sad to hear that, it was a good looking car. Plus my first Alfa was an Alfetta 2.0 saloon so I'm sentimental about them. Hope he had comprehensive insurance, poor silly bugger.

I've just had Tony do some fairly major work on mine... a no-fault insurance claim... I would be very surprised if you ended up less than impressed with his work. I'll look out for you on the road.

Also just had extractors and straight-through exhaust fitted to mine, it's now back in the shop having the intake system upgraded. You'll hear me coming!

Yes i have no doubt in my mind the work there is top-notch. I payed a visit last week, and saw a concourse standard Giulietta Spider among XK Jags and E-types in the middle of restos. Impressive.

What shop do you use for mechanical stuff? Manning Motors... Downie?

Yes I use Manning Motors, you'll see my Giulia if you are in there over the next couple of days, bloody Rob has taken far too much of my money over the years but I just can't stop having more work done! How about you?

I've had Rob do a couple jobs before but i feel he charges too much for the work, plus there was a bit of an incident a couple years ago that was a bit messy - PM me if you want to know the details.

I much pefer Stephen at Downie and Downie, hes a qualified mechanical engineer and has built some impressive race cars. Hes more interested in extracting more HP and chassis development but he will do anything you want.

This has been a great thread to go through. GoldCloverLeaf your car looks outstanding! I’m in the midst of acquiring a '72 2000 GTV and only hope I can get it looking as good as yours. My future car is missing its door panels. Any chance you can post some interior shots for us less fortunate guys who need to see a nice interior? Thanks again, great job fellas.

How do you keep the car from bottoming out or hitting the oil pan with the car so low? What springs are you using?

Wow! Your car looks great. Those 16s give it a great stance, and I bet they help in the final drive ratio while on the freeway. Are those Panasports, or Superlights? I wasn't thinking of running 16s on mine, but after seeing yours I'm having second thoughts.
I hear you on with the orbital buffer, when I cleaned my paint up, I had one catch fire while I was using it (I guess it wasn't up for 140 hours of use). They certainly do the trick for cleaning up paint however. After you get the rust taken care of it will be one seriously sweet car (not that it isn't already). Keep up the good work,

Will

Hi guys,
There's a few comments on this thread about the wheel size - particularly about being brave. Can someone clue me in on the pros and cons of 16s? One pro definitely being they look cool!

Plenty of pros and cons - I'll start a few....

Pros
Looks
Better choice of performance tyres + more cheaper alternatives as well

Cons
Large potential for wheel rubbing (although Mike has no issues I have probs with 15 x 7's)
Ride can be a bit harsh if suspension is on a stiffer setting

all the best

James

Hey guys i havent been around much lately, what James said about the wheels is spot on, as with everything there are pros and cons, im happy with the 16's but im pretty young it doesnt mean everyone else would be happy with them! The ride in a lowered and stiffened up 105 is not exactly Rolls Royce territory but its still perfectly acceptable on the street.

Im not sure why your 15's are rubbing, even my axle location is fairly poor and it is quite close on one side. I think the offset must be different on your panasports, there appears to be quite a large dish where as my superlights have somewhat less.

Some good news is the bodywork has been started on the car. I might start a new thread when i get some pics together. Man this is going to be expensive... seriosuly i feel sick!

Yeah Mike must be the offsets on the Panasports - I went for the deeper dish look as I think it looks a bit more aggressive.... located the axle as far driver left (RHD) as possible and I still get some minor rubbing on the right hand side (brake disc trimming pending). Someone correct me if I'm wrong but the axle / driveline on GTVs are not symetrically centred which could be a reason to why one wheel is much closer to your wheel arch than the other....

Oh and some more advantages of the 16's superlites - they weigh very similar to the panasports (maybe even lighter) and also cost less which is always a massive plus.

Mike - great news that work has started on your car ! At a later date (and if you don't mind) I'd greatly appreciate if you could give me some indicative costs on what you paid with Tony for your resto as I'll eventually need a paint job on mine and will have to uncover the areas wher I know rust is lurking...

thanks

James

16" Sport Wheels

Hi, Mike give me the inspiration to install the 16" wheel set, I loved the look and the stance of his car, and this I have done, and to my surprise I found that I had better ground clearance, better handling and look, than my 14" stock steel wheels (Narrow ones)with 195/65 Tires and I have installed the IAP Performance Spring set and an oil pan guard and the streets of Cairo are not free bump it's more like a camel back.
See pics. attached

I have always had a fantasy for Oversize Minilite lookalikes like yours.
