Thanks for the nice comments. I'm sure a lot of people arent into 16" wheels on these cars and i understand their viewpoint. I like these wheels because they are still a 'period' design but in a larger size.

I dont really like modern-look aftermarket wheels on 105's but i feel this works, it fills in the wheel wells nicely and gives it an aggressive stance without looking garish.

The car handles great, I think it works well for a street car. For serious track day cars I would still say 14” wheels with 195 sticky tires would be the ticket for quickest lap times unless the suspension geometry is specifically modified for larger wheels/tires in mind.

1;well there is my 1750 and my Sprint gt which I found in an adjacent street in someones back yard.

2. about a km up the road and down a street lives a red 68 Series1 1750 Gtv which is fully restored and once won the Qld Concourse. I have driven this car and it is sweet.

3. About 200 metres from me lives a Guilia Super which is being done up and that guy also owns a Alfetta Sportiva.

4. Now somewhere 2km down the road lives an Ochre Series 2 1750. This car is my Moby Dick, I always see it when I am out driving but it is either going in the other direction or I am on foot. I have never seen the car parked and I have no idea who owns it, all I know is that the car lives in the next suburb, I am dying to catch the car at the local Shell or BP one day. She has cromodoras and looks like she has been fully restored.I will get a better look at this car one day.

5 In the same neck of the woods we have a Maroon coloured 1750 series 2, which is a little rough and unoriginal but the car drives well and is owned by a really nice guy, but knows little about 1750's .

6. We used to have an original Olive green metallic Giulia Super, that belong to a local TV weatherman who apparently owned here from new, but tragically that car was written off after some idiot hit him.

Thats it for 105's there used to be a Junior that was in the area but that was sold, oh and I almost forgot my GT Junior which moved to Melbourne last month.

So lets see, that is 4 1750s, 1 sprint GT, 1 giulia super, one former Giulia super, 2 former Gt Juniors, I sportiva alfetta. Oh there is a fully restored Alfetta GTV 2.0 in Silver . And this what I know of not to mention scores of Modern ALFAs. Not bad for one small area of Brisbane. There are more out there I think, but there are no spiders in my patch (that I know of).

Sorry for the sidetrack, but Phil were you driving your 1750 on Saturday morning down Appel St, Graceville? Spotted a coupe as I was getting into my car but couldnt catch up.

If that is your area there is a Giulia Super that will not be in your area much longer

And GoldCloverLeaf, I love the look of your car too! No permanent damage if anyone wants to go back to original.

Not as good as i was first planning. But isnt that always the way...

But the good news is that the Berlina is now sold, so this will give me enough money to get my sill panels done by a 105 expert. I am still undecided who i will use for this (tossing up between three different shops at the moment).

But once this is complete i can get the car back home and complete all the time-consuming paint preparation. The good news is that i already have everything i need for the car, new panels, jewellery/bright work, window seals and restored dash etc so this will make things easy when it comes time to put it all back together.

I hope to have it done by summer... 5 months from now i hope!

Hi there, I use Tony Pallas who runs Classic Car Restorations (used to be called Brookvale Body Repairs) on Orchard St in Brookvale. He's done nothing but great work for me.

You are the second BB member to recommend him. And yes he is on my short list. I spoke to him on the phone a couple months ago and i plan to visit with him when i get back from holidays.

His shop is ideal because i work just up the road in Frenchs Forest. Thanks for the recommendation.

Cheers

Goldcloverleaf, can you give any specs on the springs that you used for this lowering? I think it looks pretty good actually, and would be keen getting mine down like that.

G'day Mike. Stunning snaps. I'm also in Sydney, Parramatta actually. Where abouts are you. Any reason you went for Bilstein shocka as apposed to koni or others. My spider neeeds new shocks but I've investigated the options yet.

I am not 100% sure what the springs are, but if you compare my car (post 109) and cor’s car fitted with Eibach springs (post 119) on this thread: Idea: How about Photos of 105 GT's only? you can see that they both sit at the same height, so go with the Eibachs and I think you will be happy.

Hi mate, im on the northern beaches. I used to have yellow konis in my alfetta and switched them over to the Bilsteins and noticed a big improvement, but this isn’t really a fair comparison, as the Konis seemed almost shot. The downside with Bilstiens is that they are more expensive and not adjustable, but the bump/rebound seems to work well with the 105 chassis as it is, so im pretty happy. I also assume they are more reliable, my ’78 Merc still has factory fitted Bilstiens and they work well.

Mirrors

Greetings,

I am having my 1967/8 GTV repainted and need to replace the aftermarket mirrors. I want to get a stock look. Are your mirrors stock? If they are, any detail you can provide will be welcome.

Cheers,
Bill
P.S. I bought the car new (in Italy) and it came without mirrors.

Hi Goldcloverleaf... was that you who had the rego plate NOT20L on the Alfetta sedan? If so I'm very sad to hear it was crashed... written off or repairable? Do you know the circumstances? I'm in Collaroy and used to see it around a bit, also saw it for sale at the Concorso.

Cheers,
Josh.

The round chrome mirrors with the Alfa emblem that were used on many GTV's are readily available. Try the usual outlets such as reoriginals, highwoodalfa, alfaholics etc. I also see them frequently on Ebay.
