you dont see this everyday

these are pics of a recent get together of people who like their cars and each others' cars.

1934 alfa romeo tipo 8c 2300 corto supercharged. this very car won many races in europe and as you can see, rides were given. smooth.

a 1914 mercedes, winner of the french gran prix 2 months after our friend franz ferdinand was separated from vital bits of his brain, starting WW1. Rides were given, and this car burns oil. a white cloud of smoke follows it everywhere, and is well documented in pictures of the time.

a really nice corvette, i dont know the year.

your humble authors' 74gtv that you are all probably sick of looking at, but i gotta tell you, was one of the stars of the day.

two porsches 1955 or so, in both soft and hard tops, a lotus, and a 1960 Alfa romeo Giulia.

more pics of the Giulia. i hope these pics serve someone well for their restoration project. this car is as perfect a restoration as anyone can get.

a 1919 Ballot winner of the indianapolis 500 of the same year. its average speed was 104.7 mph, breaking the track record by 5 mph.

your humble authors' pregger wifey given a ride in a renault jollie (sp?)

more of the same, notice the rolls. In the last pic, you see that your humble author raced around with the 34 alfa in the lead.

Wow you were sooo lucky.

I'd pay $100 bucks to go for a ride in that Alfa ... even only a 1 minute one!

And that Ballot engine ... beautiful.

Hi Pete,

The 1934 alfa does 0-60 in a little under ten seconds. It sounds incredibly beautiful. Its not loud, but throaty and purry. There is no visible smoke, unlike the mercedes, although, give the merc a break, its 20 years older.

Remember that for its day the alfa was a completely dominating competitor. No seatbelts, no helmets, nothing. A crash in one of these, and I saw a film of one, would usually result in death or maiming by catapulting the driver and mechanic way out in front of the car and then get run over by either the alfa, or a competitors' car. ouch.

The ballot was clearly ahead of its time as far as that beautiful engine you mentioned. It was a bit of a disappointment that it was scheduled to be driven (and ridden) that day, but it failed to start.

Carlo, great pics bro. Thanks for sharing them. Next time give us some prior warning, that would've been a great event to attend.
