More pics! Do you know whose F179 this was? Dave Rugh owns one, probably a few around in California.

This was a freshly restored GTA out on it's first run. Very nice. And a cockpit shot of the F1 NICE Tach. Searched around on the net and found this F1 for sale. Specs as listed on the site for the engine, 3 liter 520 hp @ 12,000 rpm.

I'm so bad.. boo hiss on the GTA's steering wheel! Shouldn't be racing with a wood wheel, and, it just doesn't look right. Belongs on a Spider Wrong bolt pattern. Actually the F1 car's steering wheel has the right bolt pattern for the Hellebore. I have a GTAm lookalike wheel in my GTA.

I read a few years back of an Alfa replica that was built. The guy made a straight 8 by joining 2 fours together. I have a fuzzy memory about this but may have the article in one of my mags somewhere.

Anyone confirm or correct me on this?

Most P3 Alfa Romeos (and other similar vehicles) run NEW engines now ...

The original is crated and kept in a safe place ... but for modern classic/vintage racing they run the NEW one. There is an English company that recasts the head and blocks, etc. (not just for Alfa Romeo) and keeps most of the historic racing fields still running.

ps: Historic racing at that level = mucho bucks

Keep in mind racing those cars when they were new was very expensive too. I remember thunderhill - I was up there once. Someone had a very original looking 250 TdF in grey with a black stripe - it had original looking englebert tires on it too. The owner seemed to like driving it around on the streets up there.

I saw an article in the late 90's about someone in England (I think) who put together 2 4 cyl Alfa engines for the 2900MM replica. I think it was called something like 'app....' It was probably in 'Classic & Sportscar'.

Is this it ?
http://www.spydercars.co.uk/pg2_special_projects.htm

I've also read about an English car (Dolomite maybe) which used an Alfa straight-8 and actually looked a lot like the Italian cars of the day. As the original engine was either missing or beyond help, a British company built a new one from scratch. I also believe this very engine was the one featured in the Classic & Sportscar (??) series of classic engines. There was a separate article on the company.

Not correct. Triumph made a car way back in the 40's or 30's called the Dolomite that had TRIUMPH's own straight 8 ... but the whole car was a copy or atleast very similar to the Alfa Romeo 8c ... but it did not use the Alfa engine.

There has indeed been a replica of the 8C2900 Spider Corsa. It was built in the UK and
all done to very high spec and detail. It was called Appenine.
On the web I came across another grey replica of the 8C2900 Spider Corsa with a turbo V6 from Nissan.

My personal opinion.

A 8C2900 is too wonderfull. I would like to own a GTA-rep of transform a 911 into a RS but
wouldn't like owning/duplicating a 8C2900. The rep. 8C2900 has been sold for about 60.000
pond which was only a fraction of the building costs.
