Couple, three shots.

Sprint. Guess date of photo. Conrero engine, 34 gallon race tank, comp suspension, bought sans generator for $500. Drained Ferrari oil pans over forehead for Howard Jackson to keep running.

Couple of sketches of what Scaglione had in mind. Bertone buck that brought it to life.

Couple of guys in old Alfa.

Nice Sprint, Calafiore. I'm gonna take a wild stab and guess the first pic is from 1969.

My guess is that the picture was taken in Laguna, CA, in the Spring of 1973. No doubt you were on Spring break from UNLV...

The newspaper in front of the car gave it away

Nice cars by the way.

Couple, three photos

Just walked in to read two great posts!

KG: the hair was longer in '69. The car a '65 Mustang. Hadn't yet had that Alfa epiphany.

MLC: As Jeremy Brett, in his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes was want to say: "It sounds so easy when it's explained." I can’t make out the copy of the Daily Pilot, and I was there!

Never did get around to Cal plates…it was a different time.

Thanks for taking the time. It was fun!

My 91' 164L is my daily driver in LA with a new rebuilt clutch (due to the 405 traffic ruining the old one) and polished heads. Drove it out to California from Akron, Ohio. Surprisingly it was in good shape. It is now safe from all the rust in corrosion that northern Ohio was eventually going to bring to it. <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/bruadkast/KnoidPictures7.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>
But now I am faced with stop and go. Since I put the new clutch in, I think I am going to make it more of a pleasure car now. I don't know how long I can afford to keep it around though since money is getting tight out here. I might eventually be faced with haveing to sell it. <a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/bruadkast/KnoidPictures8.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

I passed smog back in September and I also recently removed the cat and put a streight pipe in its place with no oxygen sensor. It sounds alot meaner now and surprisingly doesn't throw the Check Engine light. I even have the old catalytic pipe with the flex pipes and O2 sensor that I can quickly throw on before smog time comes again. ( Don't tell anybody in Cali about that though.)

Since I rebuilt the intake (with a bigger manifold) and clutch I did alot more to it. I will have updated pictures later. I put all new plugs, distributor, with all new belts and new fiberglass wrapped exhaust manifolds, it has alot more power. I am positive it is much more hp than stock now. My Alfa loving friends added up all modifications and estimate that it is at around 230 hp now.
It sounds and feels every bit of that too.

Next thing that will be doing to it once I black out all the lights is get it painted more of a vivid metallic blue.

<a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/bruadkast/alfa1-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a><a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/bruadkast/alfa1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a><a href="http://photobucket.com" target="_blank"><img src="http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d109/bruadkast/AlfaNewFeet2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket"></a>

Just as a side note, if anybody out there has a 164, I have doubles of almost every part anybody may or may not need. I got them from my friend's 164L after he wrecked it. Before it went to the junk yard I took whatever I could and now I have an excessive amount of 164 parts.

Hmmm, the car that SUPPOSEDLY belonged to Andrea Zagato (yes, it's painted black) is in Japan...

Are you sure the only colour was red? I drove what I believed was the only example brought into South Africa when they were new, and used in a Shell Petrol advert. I would have bet my house on the car being a yellow one. Since I don't own a house right now, it's a bet I can afford to lose.

Well, the only "standard" color offered was the AR130 Rosso Alfa but I assume that you could have the car painted in any color as long as you paid extra for that. After all, they were pretty much completely hand-made so I think it was not so difficult to have one or more of them painted black or yellow. BTW, it seems that the yellow car also ended up in Japan .

I have to admit it wasn't actually the newspaper The site retains the file name of each picture you post... yours was "Laguna74" The rest I guessed at based on the license plate.

There are 3 RZ's in South Africa, I've driven 2 of them, one was specced from the Factory in Red with Tan leather interior - for another friend of Andrea Zagato. The second is the only RHD, it was converted by Autodelta in the UK when new, enlarged to 3.5 litres with a hot cam. The third is stock Rosso / Nero combination.

GreyGTV6 - Yes, Red was the only colour specced for SZ's..........unless you personally knew the Zagato family.

Currently there is a yellow RZ here as well. Both the RZ and the SZ with tan interior live in the same garage, along with 20 or so mint Alfa's ranging from 1961 upwards.

Ciao

Unlike the S.Z., the R.Z. was available with many different colors (exterior/interior). AFAIK, there were red, yellow, black and silver R.Z.s.
