Number 3 and counting!
Just snaffled this one up over the xmas/new year break. A liitle bit untidy but a great little everyday runner.
Cheers,

An Alfa With History

Assuming my picture posted, the Giulietta in the foreground is my most recent Alfa project. It has been a racecar since new, having had a remarkable history of wins in the central Division while being raced by Dick Jenkins, Jim Arthurs, Treavor and Tom Bailey as an F Production and later as an E Production car. The car sat on the pole at several June Sprints and ARRC`s while raced by Dick Jenkins, and being prepared by AUSCA. Later the car was maintained by Steve Schwitters for Jim Aurthurs and has all of his wonderful chassis modifications. Luckily the car was stored in a dry climate since 1991 and is in remarkabke condition, and with wonderful parts intact. After speaking with Gordon Raymond who worked for AUSCA at the time I`ve decided to send the original Autodelta/AUSCA GTA asymetrical cams off to be profiled and copied. The engine which must have been 14 to one compression has been disasembled and with the help of a very helpful staff engineer at Hastings now ready to reassemble. However, I have a new Motronic pistoned 2 liter with all the Centerline mounts & headers needed to fit it into the car, and am considering doing that, as I don`t know what I am going to do with it long term. The gearbox was very interesting, as the gears were not standard (by any tooth count) nor any of the GTA ratios, in fact the gears were basically closer "street" ratios but with a .95 fifth. Closer examination showed the input gears (4th) were 22/30 count, (early boxes were 21/30 & later 23/30).
Splitting the cluster gear & substituting a later input & 4th gear set resulted in a perfect GTA Standard 1st (2.54)& 2nd 1.70) and GTA Short 3rd (1.207), and 5th (.883). While in it I lightened the gears (some already were) and replaced the syncros & shift forks. With the light alloy bellhousing it is quite a favorite piece.
The rear axle is a locked 5.12, and my plans have been to either graft the tubes & brakes to a 4.56 115 type LSD unit or swap in a 4.56 101 open diff unit that I have to make it more friendly to drive.
I plan to leave the exterior as it is, as it is in good "Period Correct" condition and concentrate what work I do to the underside & driveline.
But I have lots of projects & nothing happens very fast around here it seems!

Yep,
Photo was taken at my fathers race garage, the car is one of his mechanic's, who also works on a myriad of Big Healeys...
