I just changed to this image for my avatar, and thought someone might find a larger version it interesting...

Great photo George. Makes one think you auto-x a "boattail".
Let me guess - Chicago? 2008?

Conedriver-

Is that your car? If so, have you posted anywhere on the front bumper modification? If it's not yours, are you at all familiar with the car or its owner? The bumper looks fantastic and I'd imagine it's a more affordable option than sourcing pre-1975 bumpers for a late model Series II Spider.

Thanks much,
Evan

Hi Gordy,

The picture is from 8-10 years ago, during an autocross in the garage area of a racetrack south of Cincinnati. The Hoosier autocross tires at that time had real tread and could be run in wet conditions allowing my Squaretail to act like a Boattail...

Evan,

Yes, that's my '76 Spider. I cut a big "notch" in the front bumper, allowing use of an older style grille. Both front and rear mounts were modified so the bumpers could be retracted and fit closer to the body. I did this around 15 years ago, but later changed to stainless bumpers. Use "search" to look for posts about bumpers, and there are several pictures illustrating how I cut the front bumper. There are other ways to fit a grille; at least one owner cut the front bumper completely in two to fit the old grille.

Thanks for the info! Were you using the stock rear bumper before? Did it look okay with the modified front bumper?

Best,
Evan

Evan,

Sorry I missed your question. I used a stock rear bumper with the metallic strip painted semi-gloss black and the shock absorber mountings retracted so the bumper fit about 2 in. closer to the body.

Nice yellow lights

The yellow front lights on your GTV are really nice. Have been looking for a set for my Giulia Super from 1972 for ages, but without luck.

Per your Super looks fantastic as it is. If the yellow lights are hard to get-I thought they were standard issue in France, and you are in mainland Europe, had you given any thought to the issues of replacement if you have to repair or replace in the future.
Personally I think I`d stay with the original clear lens on the basis of looks (personal preference) and practicality.

Per, it looks perfect to me as it is. I wouldn't change a thing (other than the hole for the radio in the dash)
