well it should be approx 300-350 bhp. yes i did build it myself, and i did the porting etc. it wasn't an easy task because it's hard to find the parts for it. and i'm new to alfa's so there are certain things which i'm not familiar with.
no actually i'm from Malta, a tiny island in the Mediterranean which nobody knows about..
by the way thanks for your interest!!

Is Malta a right hand drive country or is your car from UK?

Welcome to the BB, gileas!

That '74 Spider looks great... Love the Carello covers and I can tell it has also been lowered... sweet!

Best regards,

Wow thanks, nice welcome here

I am surprised to see my car was even noticed, with all these high-flying amazing cars it has for company. I did log a post about it running poorly in the Spider area. The SPICA has been giving me so many problems I think I am going to send it to Wes Ingram for a real, total, knowledgble rebuild.
Fast as crap - I have gotten it up to about 110mph. Body has no rust anywhere, the paint is the original paint job, it has been lowered with beefed up springs, aside from that I removed the roll bar that was on it when I bought it, like its looks better this way. No real dents or dings anywhere, the headlamp covers were hard to find, but this guy Bruce who owns BRUCE'S PARTS BIN - Fiat Parts Main Page had them for $80 for the pair - including the chrome rings. They are illegal in CA, as is the lack of a front plate, but so far the MAN has ignored it - I think they cut classic cars a little slack - and there is no place for a plate in front anyways.

more photos of 74 alfa

Front, front side and rear shots. Funny story, the license plate number starts with 187 - (these are the old CA plates, but not the REAL old black ones). I live in a small town and got pulled over once in this car by a cop I know (I worked for the city as a commissioner for a while) and wondered what the reason was for him pulling me over.

He said that he had a report that there was a murder, and that I matched the description of the suspect, and was very serious and started to freak me out. Then he laughed and said he had noticed when he was behind me that my plate reads "187" which is apparently a cop code for murder. He wished me a good day, said "Nice Car!" and drove off.
Jim
PS: the shot of the dash is the 57,000 miles on the car. I have all the paperwork from the original bill of sale to last week.

In Malta they do indeed drive on the left (the correct side to drive on of course) and sit on the right, just like the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Cyprus, Japan, and many other civilised countries around the world. All the rest sit on the left, and drive on the wrong side of the road!!!!

Thats one fast looking 156 Mr Zammitt has there, shame its on such a small island where it can't really stretch its legs propperly.

I got chatting with some of the "locals" while there on holiday some years back, I remember a quote from one guy that there were more Maltese people around the world than there were actually living in Malta!

I would have thought Alfas would be rather popular in Malta being so close to Italy, but don't recall seeing many while I was there....

I guess you're competing on a closed road in this picture as you're on the wrong side of the road passing over a "give-way" marking painted on the road.
I'd already guessed you were in Malta by your name (an ex-work colleage of mine had the same surname as his father was Maltese) and by the Right hand Driveyness of your car, and by the markings on the road and there's just something about the surroundings that made me think, Mmm thats Malta, must go there again sometime.

I know it was only a joke. But UK and the countries it "settled" drove on the left for sword fighting , knives, sabres etc as most of the population is generally right handed. The US had firearms so the natural tendency would be to keep the approaching horseman to your left for a better shot. Napoleon was left handed and insisted his troops follow his method of keeping an approaching horseman to his left. Thus the tendency for Europeon countries to drive on the right. And thus endeth the history lesson for the day.

yes unfortunately the roads here are quite small. here people are more into british and japanese cars, but there are a few "alfisti" around.
well places where circuits could be built were turned into industrial estates or football (soccer) pitches.
at least we have a drag strip here.. even that they tried to take over. we went once on a sunday and found a factory being built in the middle of it. so what we did was take it down brick by brick (i mean quite literally about 200 men pushing bricks off the walls).
but we make the best of what we have..

thanks for the interest by the way.

I didn't know that. One thing I did learn is that no matter what country you are in, the driver always sits on the side of the car that is closer to the middle of the road.
