Stolen: Simca Sport
My 1951 Simca Sport Cabriolet, which has been at a body shop in Placentia, California has disappeared with the shop owner, Jerry Sievers. The shop, called Paint' N Place, closed recently, and is now empty, with Seivers MIA. Its a straight car, in bare metal. I still have all the trim, and the V8-60 that was installed by Eddie Meyer in 1960. If anyone comes across the car, please let me know. The police don't seem to be very excited about it, but the car has been reported as stolen.
Thanks

That is horrible. Sorry to hear as the Simca SPort is such a fantastic Farina design, especially in open form.
Hope it all will play out well for you. I will keep my eyes open in case it will hit the market in one form or the other. It is a rare car.

Hope they find your car and the SOB that took off with it.

Might help if you post a pic for those not familiar with what it looks like.

Greg,
Sorry to learn of this. Working in your favor is the fact that a Simca Sport Cab is really going to stick out if that crook tries to sell it.
A police report is essential, but you really need to alert all the auto auction houses, and whatever dealers seem to specialize in these. I'd also contact ICE and Interpol, in case he tries to ship it out of the country. Beyond that, just post an alert on every BB you can find, worldwide.
I've got to believe it'll turn up; it's got to be almost impossible to hide a car like that forever. It's too rare not to notice, but not nearly expensive enough to justify an elaborate and expensive pay-off scheme that would disappear it completely. And to put it on the road, someone will have to look around for a suitable engine and the trim parts. Somewhere, some time, someone will have to ask the kind of question about engine or trim that will pop up on the radar, if you've alerted everyone you can.
Good luck; we're all pulling for you.

Greg,
Sorry to hear about your loss, a true tragedy.
I don't know where you live nor where the body shop is/was located in Placentia; however, the City is teetering on or is in bankruptcy. I continue to have regular dealings with the police, thanks to a neighbor that nothing I do or my neighbor does suits him, plus the private road situation, and he calls them regularly. Our houses are also secluded and offer the officers a place to take their doughnut breaks.
You must have gotten an odd-ball officer; Pat and I have never had any trouble with them with the car incidents that we've had. They've always been helpful, except on Super Bowl Sunday they did act annoyed when they wanted to watch the game and Pat wanted my brake light ticket signed off on the Alfa sedan.
Be sure and check the impound lots that Placentia has fenced off around the city in various locations in case it is dumped or left parked some where and picked up. To cut expenses they are impounding cars on their own rather than paying a service and rental impound fees. One of the lots is on Placentia Avenue between the two sets of railroad tracks, south of Chapman Avenue and North of Kimberly where the old Office Depot used to be that backs up to the 57 Freeway.
I admit the above is unlikely; this sounds more like the owner knew what he had and it may have been a well-planned disappearance, especially, if the car was there for some time without being checked on regularly and in this economy. There are so many storage units as well as small out-of-the way auto servicers in and around the city that it could be hidden in plain sight. I'd keep my eyes open around the railroad tracks and small hidden shops in the less desirable areas of Placentia, if you think it was moved to be picked up later.

Happy ending - hopefully! The Placentia Police Department was very good to follow through and locate Jerry Seivers. He tells me that they had to shut down quickly, tried to call but somehow didn't connect with my answering machine, and has the car stored for safekeeping. It will be a few days before I can pick it up, but it looks like it will work out. Greg

Yes, this does indeed sound like good news, and we'll keep hoping for the best. Let us know how it turns out.
In the meantime - look at all the important information we received about the metropolis of Placentia. <G>

Yeah, that bedroom metropolis is floundering along, but apparently doing better than the neighboring city's police department, you know that one that starts with an F and has a California State University....
They ticketed a City employee's reported stolen car for 8 days before having it impounded. Did anyone think to run the vin. number? Of course not, they were only interested in ticket revenue. The vin. was run when the car was impounded. I can't tell you how unhappy she is...with the ticket fines, impound fees, plus she had bought a new car in the meantime...she did have to get to work, after all.
So for those of you that think us City employees get special treatment or perks, here's one of them....
Glad, it appears that with Placentia PD's help you may recover your car.

And this has what (maybe 13 words?) to do with Greg's missing Simca???

I'm going to go waaaay out on a limb here, and venture a guess that most of us don't know, and even those of us that do still don't give "that one that starts with an F".

Being an uprooted Texan living in Dixie, I have not a F clue what city that would be. i thought every city in California had a state university in it, just like Texas has. Well, a Texas state university, that is. The only California state university in Texas is in Austin.
Just out them Cheryl. They know who and what they are. That's the Texas way, such as: "You raise hell in Odessa and a family in Midland." Even folks in Odessa know that.
So there. That should help Greg get his historic Simca back. Look for a car with a parking ticket on it.
But seriously, have you linked back up with your car yet, or will you still not know for a while?

Well it was actually written, specifically, for Gordy, since he does know what city I'm referring to and I'm sure you do also...since I can only think of two California cities that have a State University in them that begin with an "F" and they both have the same university initials: CSUF, and it's not Fresno, because that's no where near Placentia.
We all know that Gordy can count to at least 13...
No Larry, not every California city has a State University, an University of California, a Community College, or a private college. If they did California wouldn't be teetering on the brink of bankruptcy, they would have accomplished it. Out them, the same City that is letting me volunteer to return 5% of my salary back to them for the next two years minimum, but can continue to hire police to write tickets to cover their salaries. Whatever works....
It was actually meant as a comment on what you can expect as helpfulness from some municipalities about issues that are important to you but not to them. Hopefully, between conquering gang activity, keeping the shootings down at local high schools, etc. they will find time to recover Greg's car.
