My Fiat Dino
Here are some pictures of my 1968 Fiat Dino Spider 2.0 liter. One of the reasons that I own this car, that I purchased in June of 2003, is that I had spent a frustrating spring searching for a pre 1974 Alfa Spider or GTV. I found this car on the Fiat Lancia Unlimited website (FLU.org), reckoning that there might be an Alfa or two there. The Fiat was located about 60 miles away in southeastern Massachusetts. On one fateful Friday, I arranged to take a look at the car. The triple webbered V-6 was intoxicating! I was hooked, but I told the guy that I had to think about it--after all it was almost twice what I had planned to spend. I spent a fitful month thinking about that car. Pretty embarassing at a meeting when you are thinking about the car, and getting called upon--"wha? wha? ok, ok" The engine is strong, and the car gets looks everywhere. It is an absolute blast to drive, bringing the V-6 up close to the 8000 redline. It has been frustrating also, electrical gremlins are numerous, but I have since corrected them, and the waterpump is now showing signs of failure, so I don't dare drive it now. However waterpump parts are still easy to obtain, and the job is fairly easy. Sometimes it's a love-hate relationship, but mostly it's "all about the love!!"
Anyway, this will be mine for now, at least until the right Alfa comes along!

That is a rolling masterpiece of automotive artwork. I love my '71 AR Spider's looks, but your Dino really gets it right!

Good job, I love these cars. If I was you I would not sell it even if you found the GTV you wanted.
The sounds this car makes alone are worth it.
Thanks for sharring

Thanks to all the kind comments!! Yeah, the knock offs were used on the first and second series. My car is a late series two, number 1090 manufactured in September 1968. The series two cars run to number 1158. Officially, there were 1133 examples produced. The cars in the late second series recieved larger intake and exhaust valve sizes--sort of an upgrade to the original engine design. They also recieved other engine and suspension upgrades. In the second series, there were only 283 spiders produced. In the coupe version of the series one and two, there were 3629 examples produced. After the second series, the Fiat Dino went to the 2.4 liter engine, and bolt on wheels, independent suspension, better gearbox, (although I can't find anything to complain about on my gearbox) among other improvements. The 2.4 liter spider is particularly rare--just 424 examples produced over the period of four years, 1969 - 1973. In the coupe version, there were 2414 examples. if you want a real comprehensive history of the Fiat Dino, I suggest the book by Mike Morris " Fiat Dino-A Ferrari by another name" Like the car, rather hard to come by, but if you find a copy snatch it up--great reading!!

Late posting to this thead, but does anyone know of any Fiat Dinos in Australia? I've seen one for sale in a Melbourne listing, a coupe for $38,000Aus. I have much enthusiasm for owning a late model 2.4L Bertone coupe. Any horror stories with converting them to RHD? The Dino engine has me hooked, but a 246 is not going to end up in my hands at the starting point of my career

My 68 Dino
Hey Nick,
Stunned to see your car. Just picked up one myself.
I've always loved the Dino spider but never thought I could afford to buy one.
Then one day I was talking Fiats with a guy at a car show and he told me he knew of one for sale. Turns out the car was sitting in a garage for 4 years as the owners wife did not like it!
I was told he wanted 20k for it but I managed to get him down way below that.
As you can see it is all dressed up in a Ferrari costume. That will all change this winter. I plan to do a full restoration on the car. I need as many photos of how the car should be as possible.
Aside from these photos more can be seen at:

Ben,
Try fiatdino@yahoogroups.com or "The other Dino", a club dedicated to Fiat Dinos. Wally Clark is the Editor/Registrar at clarkinc@pacbell.net. Both are a great source of info regarding these wonderful cars. Good luck in your search. In the US, typically, the coupes run about 1/3 to 2/3 the value of a like condition spider. As far as RHD conversion goes, there are a lot of members in the UK who could probably help you out on that subject. Good Luck!
