Looks pretty cool!

I find it interesting though that the speedo keeps increasing while the front wheel is off the ground. And aren't all EFI bikes electronically controlled to like 187MPH or something. Or is that a US thing.

I don't buy it.
The white lines and peripheral view don't correspond to 220+ MPH.
Whomever did this doesn't value their machine - holding at 2K over the red line.

I agree....doesn't add up. Tach with red line at 9k seems very low too. Seems like some BS so to speak.

Best Regards,

Nope, it sure didn't feel that gast to me either. And, it is interesting to note how slow it appears to be going when coming down in speed...100mph looks like about 30 judging by the road view!

The motor cyclcle is a Suzuki Hayabusa. These are indeed 200 MPH crotch rockets. Do a little googling and you can find all sorts of stuff about them.

Here's a 1999 acticle

And here's another video. It's pretty crapy resolution.

Here are some perfromance specs

It's on the internet, it must be true.

You know, if these kinds of bikes were around in my road racing bike days (called cafe racers way back then), either;

A) I wouldn't be around today to talk about it or
B) wouldn't be currently riding or driving (legally that is )

Jim,

When I was young, I had a Triumph and then moved on to a Harley Sportster, before shifting to a nice, old "Harley Police Special". I got to ride a few fast BMWs and some Japanese 'Cafe Racers', as well as the odd La Verda and Moto Guzzi. That was great fun, but I quit owning bikes after a summer where 7 of the guys I rode with died...not ALL from bike accidents...it was more a 'lifestyle' thing (some of you may remember a news story from the Seventies about some bodies being found wrapped in sleeping bags and chains in Montreal). In any event, I decided that fall to sell my bikes and never 'BUY' another. I also cleaned up my act...well mostly anyway! I am convinced that if I hadn't done that, I would either have been dead or in jail within the following five years. Just wanted to share that.

My favorite "Stupid Bike Tricks" story was where in 1975 (I think it was 75), this young guy whose parents gave him way too much money showed up trying to look cool on his new Kawasaki 900, which had just been introduced and was the bike equivalent of a Hemi Cuda. It was a very gawdy lime-green color. We were behind the local pool-hall/ hangout, where the canal and the locks had a small - but very long - diagonal parking area, which was always filled with the fancy cars of the rich folks who frequented the upscale restaurants (the ones I never went into) that lined the main street by the canal. So this guy lines the bike up in front of my (ahem) associates and I who were sitting astride our steel chariots and guns the engine...screaming into the wild reaches of RPM way beyond what we Brit and American riders were used to seeing. When the RPM reached an incredible height...he popped the clutch...the bike stood there for a moment. smoking the tire in a great display of testosterone-induced sensory overdose. Then, an amazing thing happened: the bike leaped forward, balanced on its rear wheel...without the rider!!! He made a brief run for the bike...but she was off "on her own". A split-second later, the bike hit a lovely tan Rolls Royce broadside, jumped into the air, bounced off the trunk of a burgundy Mercedes 280 SE and landed in the passenger compartment of a gorgeous white MGA I had been admiring. I just wish that video cameras were as available then as they are now! Needless to say, we all had a good snicker over this unfortunate dweeb's mishap.

Have a great weekend!

Cheers,

I also remember seeing, in a previous reference to this video on another forum, that it had also been turbo'd

The rate of acceleration from about 170 to 200 indicated seems to be way too quick. Also, the Japanese sportbikes tend to have very optimistic speedometers.

As far as the speedometer being able to function with the front wheel off the ground -- that's because the speedometers typically pick up from the rear wheel or the tranny. I'm not sure about Hayabusas, but if the speedo pick-up is in the tranny and the final gear ratios were changed (easy to do on a chain-drive bike), then the speedo would be doubly optimistic!!

It's still quite possible that the guy was doing 180. Nothing to sneeze about.
