I received a note from Evelyn the other day. She is on her way to Southwest to spend the winter. The Oakland Chapter of the Hell's Angels, where she has been staying, gave her a going away present. She now has a pair of custom made Pappy Boyington's style goggles. Now that she has eye protection, she is riding on the tank of a Harley Sportster during her trip to the Southwest.

She is not at all concerned for her safety while in the Southwest. The evil Raspberry would have to contend with several tribes of hostile Indians who all owe an allegience to Marilyn, Evelyn's mother, and therefore will be Evelyn's protectors while she is staying in the Southwest.
One of these days I may get it right; I do remember furnishing the information behind Evelyn's name...what is that they say about "out of sight, out of mind;" sure is my state. I will try and remember the royal puppy is a she -- keep reminding me!!!! I just checked, my head is still attached to my shoulders, I'm not sure about the brain function, though.

She may not be concerned about her safety in the Southwest, but depending on how far west she comes she should be concerned about her health. She's going to need more than those goggles or learn to enjoy inhaling soot and ash while navigating downed trees, power lines, lights out etc.

If a one-eyed purple people eater ordered a goggle it would certainly be so that he could ogle inconspiciously, not that a one-eyed purple people eater could be inconspicous at anything except on Halloween.

I've almost mastered baking cookies without burning them, but I did have to buy those expensive air filled cookie sheets. In all seriousness, if you could live on dessert alone, I'm a gourmet cook; but you have to find the rest of the food pyramid in those cookies, pie, cake, candy etc. And of course, the 5 second rule applies as well as the calories escaping when opened.

Philly doesn't look so bad, the populace here looks like an R. Crumb cartoon.

Hum, I just may resemble that remark if you mean pruney from the past weekends rain during our club run. Dang top leaks and dogs and cats were coming down all over NW Oregon. If I didn't already know her royal highness was already processed as spam, I would have watched for him or her. Did you make it to Long Beach skid?

Actually, I was thinking much more locally. Things are a little, uh, different here. You could have chosen a better weekend for a run, I should have cleaned the drains in my Verde this year. Today made up for it though, shopvac'd the pass. floor and took it for a long drive up the coast to dry it out.

I wanted to get down south but I was called to go back to work Monday and still have to get up to Seattle to pick up a GTV6, among about 50 other things. I hate having only 2 months off. I need longer vacations!

Where are you located? This AROO run was to Long Beach Wa with a lot of driving from Salem, Forest Grove, Mist, Cathlamet, Seaside and the like. Last year I guess they did Southern Oregons coast, but I missed that one and a lot of this one too. I just went out on my own and got lost for a few hours

Any weekend is good, but a little dry weather is best. I've only got 12 months a year of vacation, and even that is not enough!

Is there an R Crumb memorial run?

Umm...just a side point for accuracy - R. Crumb wasn't the author of Fat Freddies Cat.

From Wikipedia:

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers by Gilbert Shelton

The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers are a trio of underground comic strip characters created by the U.S. artist Gilbert Shelton. Beginning in 1968, their adventures were collected in a series published by Rip Off Press. With the demise of the underground newspaper, new adventures continued to appear in magazines such as Playboy, High Times, and Rip Off Comix; these too were collected in comic book form. Shelton continued to write the series until 1992 in collaboration with Dave Sheridan (1974-1982) and Paul Mavrides (since 1978). The work enjoys a sizeable cult following, and the magazines are widely available in comic stores.

The comics relate the picaresque adventures of the eponymous "brothers" and their attempts to procure drugs without "getting burned," while avoiding apprehension by the police. Other storylines include "Fat Freddie's Cat" and a cockroach empire located in the kitchen. The stories are satirical in nature, often targeting the establishment and right-wing politics. For a counterculture production, the standard of artwork is exceptionally high; Shelton's striving for accuracy and attention to detail have earned him comparisons with Hergé.

The majority of the titles in the series consist of one or more multi-page stories together with a number of one-page strips. Many of the latter have a one-row skit featuring Fat Freddy's Cat at the bottom of the page. Some of the titles also contain a small number of strips featuring completely unrelated characters.

The comic is currently being adapted into a movie using stop-motion animated rubber figurines.

Didn't Freddy say that "Alfas will get you through times of no money better than money will get you through times of no Alfas."?

Then again, maybe it was some other recreational drug.

Yeah...I was there...I think!

I'd cut you slack anytime, but we're talking about some very important icons of counter-culture history here!
