How Many Alfisti in the 5 boroughs?

Hi All,
I am a new GTV6 owner, located in Brooklyn. I hung out recently at the Alfa Import Center and met a few people from the area while Giuseppe helped me sort out my new ride. It seems that most of the NYAROC members are in Long Island. How many of you out there are located in the city? I am especially curious how many GTV6s there are in NYC. I am always up for caravanning to Lime Rock any weekend this summer, by the way. Just send me a PM!

There is another AROC member who lives in The City and has a GTV6 and posts on the BB from time to time. However, most of the AROC members don't participate on the BB. The AROC is the traditional club, and focuses on in-person activities (it pre-dates the online era), and there are always activities going on. For example, they just had a tech clinic this past Saturday...

The NJ Chapter of the AROC is pretty active as well, and we do activities together with the NY AROC. The next function is a trip to the Simeone Museum in Philadelphia, on April 11. If you are looking for in=person type activities you should check out the local chapters, and see if you'd like to join one of them... The AROC web site is Alfa Romeo Owners Club USA

Best regards,

With two beautiful Alfas like that, I hope you are a member of NYAROC. I would like to reply about the club's perception as being a "Long Island" club. Truth be told, it was originally called LIAROC (Long Island Alfa Romeo Owners Club), but about 6 or so years ago, the club changed its name to NYAROC to become more inclusive of New York City and surrounding area Alfa owners. Our outgoing president, who did a splendid job in organizing and energizing the club, is in fact a Queens resident. That being said, we have found that the majority of our "active" members are Long Island based. We have often thought about Manhattan or Brooklyn based events (Upper East Side or Brooklyn Heights) and would welcome any suggestions the "city folk" may have so that we can welcome them into the fold. Speaking as the incoming president, I want to see the club continue to grow. I would welcome any suggestions and will present them to the board of directors which meets regularly. Finally, I invite you to check out our web site. It is current, full of info and our next event is the annual Holiday Party that we are holding in Huntington (details on the web site calendar). Hope to see you there. Dino

Sergio,

Welcome to the BB!

You should consider joining AROC. I belong to the NJ chapter (and I live in NJ), but I also always go to the NY chapter Holiday party. It's coming up on January 9, and yes, the party will be in Long Island. It is very much worth the trip however - you even get to see a TZ!

Best regards,

i would be interested in a social gathering in manattan as that is where i live. because of parking in the 5 boroughs, that explains the reason of sparse owners of alfas in the area.

I think it has less to do with scarcity of parking than scarcity of car lovers, and scarcity of disposable income for cars (low priority below ipods, "it" bags, and fixed gear bikes). I daresay most New Yorkers who can afford a "fun" car probably keep it outside the city, or in parts of the city where people have garages (seems like a lot of Alfisti are on Staten Island). I think only the true enthusiast would have an Alfa as their only vehicle in NYC. I would love to meet more of these crazy folks such as those of you who replied!

lgbalfa, can you suggest a Manhattan based event? Evening dinner cruise around Manhattan? Maybe something on the Brooklyn side of the Brooklyn or Manhattan Bridges? I know you came to the Stonybrook show. Do you intend on attending the Holiday Party? Dino

There used to be a place called Pit Stop located in Red Hook which was all themed on 1960s grand prix racing, but the last I heard it was closed. Which is a shame because it would be a great place to have an alfa meet up (although it is a french restaurant)

Here is their website. Seems still up!

I would put the thread in NYAROC. Perhaps other ideas may be exposed. Red Hook is a good location. I understand that there has been a lot of "urban renewal" there. I will look into that place and see if it's still around. Dino
